It's a port with addional content. Besides isn't this game already on Wii and on 3DS? How many times do they expect people to buy the same game?

Well, what again was the reason for buying this port again and again on PSP? Ah yes, every of these 'ports' got new content. And everyone agrees this was that saved PSP in Japan.

Huh? First of all, this game didn't get released on the PSP AT ALL. Tri is exclusive to Nintendo consoles.
PSP got more than just "ultimate editions" of Monster Hunter games, it got full on sequels. THAT is what saved the PSP.

As far as I know the only thing Portable 3rd on PSP didn't have was under water hunting, the really shitty part is they never released it outside of Japan. 3DS will have a full sequel this time with 4 and looking at total Vita sales compared to 3DS right now, I don't really blame Capcom. =/

I don't see how this is relevant. We're not discussing which game is better or the Vita sales.

I'm not talking about which game is better at all, I just feel that it sucks that it's not more multiplatform because I like the game and wish more people can play the series.

Phantasy Star Online >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Monster Hunter > Ragnarok Odyssey.

*edit*

Another comparison to Monster Hunter would be Dragon's Dogma, since boss monsters are a huge focus in both games, yet they're better in Dragon's Dogma and there's far more to offer in the game than just amazing bosses.

Dragon's Dogma >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Monsters Hunter.

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen comes out on April 23th.  Includes the original game, all DLC, new classes, new dungeon, new monsters and bosses, more equipment.  $40 MSRP.

The game is designed to be playable even by those who are not too skilled at action games. These types of players can recruit strong NPCs and let them do the fighting during combat as they watch over the battlefield.[12] Players have access to 40 to 50 hours of main quest play and up to an additional 70 hours or more of side quests.[10]

[edit]Multiplayer

Although Dragon's Dogma does not feature a direct multiplayer mode, the developers have revealed that players can compete online with asynchronous encounters called "Events" via Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network. One such event includes the 'Ur-Dragon' in which the effect of each party's attacks will be combined until the Ur-Dragon finally falls. Players that deal the fatal blow will receive the maximum reward, but regardless all players can still obtain both common and rare items dropped by the Ur-Dragon when they inflict damage.

In every way, Monster HUnter beat it. Main quests can take you more than 200 hours + another solid 200 hours online. Co-op miltiplayer was super on Wii, Wii U will be better with DLC quests for free. Monster Hunter is a challeging game, that you can't beat it by yourself if you don't learn from it. No hack and slash will help you at all without strategizing. Best Dragon's Dogma review average 78 on metacritic, Monster Hunter on Wii with standard definition graphics managed 84.

In terms of sales:

Total Units Dragon's Dogma (PS3 + XboX360)

North America: 0.18m 20.4%
+ Europe: 0.15m 17.1%
+ Japan: 0.50m 55.1%
+ Rest of the World: 0.07m 7.4%

= Global

0.90m

Total Units Monster Hunter Tri (Wii only)

North America: 0.56m 27.0%
+ Europe: 0.36m 17.4%
+ Japan: 1.05m 50.5%
+ Rest of the World: 0.11m 5.1%
= Global 2.09m

I am not saying Dragon's Dogma is not a good game, but at least is not better than Monster Hunter Tri on the kiddy Wii.

And I don't even want to mention Phantasy Star Online.

Capcom have outlined some of the new content in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for those that aren’t sure how much is new if you’ve already played Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii. On their Capcom-Unity blog, they mention that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate has 73 monsters in total.

So, assuming you’ve played Tri, this is what’s been added to 3 Ultimate:

Total number of quests: 339 (SP and MP, not counting free DLC quests)

Total number of weapons: 1,398 including the following

  • 59 Great Swords

3 new areas: The Tower, Misty Peaks and the Tainted Sea

Yes, that is exactly what i posted on the thread.

It's a shame more people didn't buy the Wii U version of MH3G in Japan, it's a lot better than the PS3 version of MHP3, which is just a crude port of the PSP game to HD. They actually went and redid the interface from the 3DS game for the Wii U HD port, and it looks a lot cleaner.

If you have a Wii U, get the HD version. It's probably the best game Wii U has to offer right now. And if you want to play online you should probably get an Ethernet adapter, it will reduce latency compared to wireless. Lag = death in a fast paced action game like MH.

By the way MHP3 is in a different setting from MH3/3G. Just to set that straight for the people arguing above, it has nothing to do with Tri, it's totally remade. Of course Capcom copies over some fields, monsters, and gear, but they do that in all the games.

I am not saying Dragon's Dogma is not a good game, but at least is not better than Monster Hunter Tri on the kiddy Wii.

And I don't even want to mention Phantasy Star Online.

First off I don't want you to take that I'm saying Dragon's Dogma is the best and if you like Monster Hunter better your opinion sucks, but just mentioning that as my own personal opinion.  Another thing you mentioned was the sales.  This is based on the sales of a brand new IP compared to the sales of a preestablished IP that the Japanese beat off to on a regular basis.  Even then, sales really shouldn't matter when discussing a game because high sales doesn't equal a good game.  You only need to look at games like Resident Evil 6 and Operation Raccoon City sales and gameplay for more on that.

I've only played Freedom Unite, but here's the problem with Monster Hunter and the 200+ potential hours of gameplay that it offers.  There's something like six maps if you actually can play that long to go through them.  As you take on quests, offline or online, you've got your gathering quests, hunting quests, etc.  You do the exact same quests in the exact same areas repeatedly.  You're repeatedly doing the same quests and upgrading your equipment to do the same quests at a higher difficulty.

When it comes to the monsters.  Monster Hunter has you dodging monsters, then attacking, or dodging monsters, laying a trap for it to run into, etc, then just attacking at it. aside from the usual like throwing a paintball at a monster so you can keep track of its location.  Can you climb the neck of a Hydra and cut away at it until one of the heads come off?  Can you climb the back of a Ogre attacking at it?  Can you grab onto a Griffin and continue to attack it while it takes to the sky, eventually crashing to the ground because of the damage you're dealing to it?  There's far more diversity to the boss battles on Dragon's Dogma than on Monster Hunter.  It's like Demon's Souls mixed with Shadow of the Colossus.

"The game is designed to be playable even by those who are not too skilled at action games. These types of players can recruit strong NPCs and let them do the fighting during combat as they watch over the battlefield."

Dragon's Dogma might not have online and it's something a lot of people hope for, but as a game based on being completely single player experience, they are offering similar experience to what you'd get if it was online play with the choice between having allies.  Does that mean that you're required to take the pawns with you?  No.  You can play through the entire game aside from the beginning without a pawn if you wish.  Also, if you play through the game with pawns that are your characters same level, the game will have a good difficulty.  You're not required to use rift stones to have a team of nothing but overpowered pawns that your friends created.

On Dragon's Dogma, the base of the game isn't just taking quests, killing bosses, etc.  Exploration is also a major part of the game.  If you haven't played it then Google the map.  It might not be as big as the Elder Scrolls games, but it's also far larger than Demon's Souls and Dark Souls put together.  I'd say the world map is more of a mixture the Elder Scrolls games combined with the Souls games.  Not only is there a large world, but there is a lot of detail put into the world.  Not just the randomness in detail as you'd expect from an Elder Scrolls game, but the detail you'd find in the Souls games, although not completely on the Souls level.  What does Monster Hunter have to offer in terms of exploration other than repeatedly going back to the same areas and gathering the same items?

Also.  Phantasy Star Online is way better than Monster Hunter.  Universe/Portable is better too.

Yes, and the multiplayer in DD is...wait...there is no MP.

Also: DD's bosses--in fact the entire game--was laughably easy. It's pretty clear you like super easy games which makes it abundantly clear that of course MH isn't for you.

I loved DD, but the game is an absolute joke and offers an entirely different experience to MH, as does PSO (and PSO2, which I imagine you have not played). You know this. Yet you come in here and desperately attempt to talk the game down. Why, pray tell? Platfom insecurity??

MHP3 on PSP is basically MH3 (Wii) conent + new content with no underwater. MH3G is MH3 content + some MHP3 content + new content and underwater back in.

http://andriasang.com/comif1/monster_hunter_freedom_3_preview/

It looks like Capcom is packing Monster Hunter Freedom 3 with new content. This may come as a surprise if you were expecting a quick update to Freedom Unite or even Wii's Monster Hunter 3.

Freedom 3 is actually based off neither those two games. Ichinose took particular care to note how the game has changed from the last PSP title. "The majority of the game has been remade. Because of this, monster movement and graphics have become markedly better, and the breadth of expression has expanded. I expect you to make lots of new discoveries while out on the hunt, stuff like 'they can have this many monsters move with this quality of visuals' and 'You can even do this.'"

You're reaching.  How is it platform insecurity when the Monster Hunter I've played and didn't enjoy was on the PSP, not on the Wii U, yet I still bash it?  Phantasy Star Universe may be on the PS2 and 360, witih Portable being on the PSP, but Online is only on the Dreamcast, Gamecube, and PC, of which I own the Dreamcast and Gamecube versions.  Not only that, but Ragnarok Odyssey isn't on the Wii U and I posted that as being worse than Monster Hunter.

Also, you really don't know my interests other than those in these posts and what you may have seen elsewhere.  You don't know if I've played Dragon's Dogma solo on hard mode, etc.  Also, what does difficulty matter as long as a game is fun.  Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Island are the three most common favorite Mario games, yet they're by far the easiest of the older 2D titles.  And speaking of platformers, my favorite platformer this gen is Prinny Can I Really Be the Hero, a game I'm sure you wouldn't argue that it's a difficult game if you've ever played it.  Coincidentally it's on PSP.  :O.  Platform insecurity!!!  But again, I just bashed Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, so how's that work?

Opinions about video games is serious business, I gather.  Then again, this is the internet, where any differing opinion garners mass hatred.  Serious business indeed.
