Forums - Sony - Nvidia bitterness continues, compares PS4 specs to a 'low-end CPU'

Nvidia is right.

The APU has by default a mobile based CPU and GPU and therefore they are low/mid products.

This why I been laughing at all the craziness people have gone on about the 8GB of GDDR5 ram.

MSony are not pushing the limits at the start of this gen like previous. This is also why they are significantly closer to WiiU than their predecessors were to Wii. Wii to WiiU is a larger jump than PS360 to PS4/NXbox.

Now after saying that... its obvious Nvidia is in damage control.

Mobile products aren't necessarily low/mid end. The PS4 has a desktop GPU in its APU anyway.

Is not looking good guys, time to sell your stock...
Seriously, i dont expect consoles to be top tech anymore since GC days, its all about games now.

I hope AMD destroys them. :p

Of course a really high end pc will be better... that's why it's more expensive that's the point. You pay for better performance but too bad only like 3 developers care enough to push the hardware in a good pc so it makes no sense to pay that much extra for a more powerful gaming pc when nobody will push it for gaming in years.

Of course nVidia would say this, they aren't involved in the console's production and their market is those of us who build gaming PCs. Those who want raw power will always go PC, consoles are not even in the competition. I know I only buy consoles for the exclusive games.

They don't understand the console market, and the average console buyer. Those who can't be bothered to build and maintain a high end gaming PC don't care about their latest video card.

I don't really consider a $1200 PC to be "high end" in cost though, but that should be able to outperform a PS4.

I think PC rigs will be pushed more once PS4/720 come out because most games will be developed on the PC to begin with, so porting those to the PC will be simple.

No it isn't. Its the mobile variant with other modifications.

I thought they planned to release a desktop equivalent in the 7790?

Similar tech, but watered down... which is what they do for mobile series chips.

The APU or Fusion technology always has AMDs equivalent mobile tech. Thats how they get the size and power requirements.

So yes, the APU in the PS4 is the graphical technology equivalent of a HD77XX or HD77XX, but it would have the "M" moniker at the end of the label to denote that it is the mobile series variant.

This is why Nvidia is saying its a low/mid end GPU yet we know its based on a HD7XXX chip. Its a HD7XXXM GPU.

It's a good jump over PS3 and if it can do 1080p 60fps and have fast load times for everything while multitasking and capturing video what more can I ask for? I wasn't expecting a 4k console and am not getting a TV over 1080p anytime soon so not really anything else. I also know it'll have the exclusives and considering that GoW Ascension just wowed me with 8 year old tech I'm expecting I'll be impressed with what Sony's first party guys can do with modern tech, even "low end" stuff.
