Forums - Nintendo - Lego City frame rate issues :(

Then Nintendo is fucking up, they are publishing a game with below current gen graphics but which still have frame rate problems (according to rumor). It doesn't generate a lot of confidence for people still on the fence.

their butts must hurt from sitting on the fence.

This really has turned me off Lego City, the final straw for me to be honest. With Monster Hunter 3 Ult coming out around the same time I won't have any time to devote to Lego City and considering it's shaping up to be less than I expected, I think if this game was multi-platform it would be getting an even lower score but because it's touted as one of the only Wii U games to look forward too this year reviewers are going easy on it.

lol if true I wonder what Wacthdogs will look like on WiiU.

Bad reviews for Lego City could be a real problem for WiiU, it might drive people off the system while there's already not much hype or marketing for the game (in France nobody is talking about it, Tomb Raider and God of War everywhere, MHU in a lesser extend).

Orange Box wasn't published by Sony. Can't remember a game published by Sony for the PS3 that had horrible frame rate issues.

I don't have a PS3, but I do remember a game developed and published by Sony for the PS2 that had horrible frame rate issues.

And if while playing God of War (any game in the franchise so far qualifies) the game hits 60 frames per second once per playthrough despite not being locked at 30 you can consider yourself lucky.

Will kids really care if the frame rate isn't perfect, though?

And technically it's not really "below current gen graphics" as there are plenty of 7th gen games with weaker graphics.

Perhaps i will rent it, i was just ranting because i wanted it to be a good showcase of what the Wii U can do. But it looks to be a little unpolished.

Maybe its due to the bad architecture of the Wii U.

Dude, it's just a launch window console game.

You know what has a frame stutter on Wii U? Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Despite MHTri for Wii having a rock-solid framerate, somehow rendering the same assets at a higher resolution causes a stutter on Wii U. It's not that the Wii U "can't handle those graphics" or has "bad architecture." The game simply hasn't been optimised well because the hardware is unfamiliar, the code has been ported, and the developer is on a deadline.

Exceptional developers like Nintendo and Criterion can build smooth, well-optimized games for Wii U right now, and even they could do better if they had more experience. Everybody else is still on the learning curve.

I have a ton of playing time in the game, and the so-called framerate issues are small and infrequent. It's been reviewed as an 80 game on average and at no time does it even get close to 'unplayable'. The slowdowns seem to happen randomly (mostly while driving) and generally only last for a few seconds (maybe something is loading off the disk or something, who knows). I think the real issue here is that this is TT's first attempt at an open-world game. Seeing that NFSMW looks much better and has no framerate issues at all, it's clearly a lack of experience by the dev, not a hardware issue. Even so, it's a great game and these minor issues don't take away from the experience.

I take it you haven't played the game.

We're still in that "launch window" for Wii U. Expect to see a couple more bad ports or games with annoying issues over the next few months.

Hell even PS3/360 still get games like this. Dark Souls is a perfect example. That didn't stop me from enjoying the game though!
