More like... 30, live at my home, work at IBM, have girlfriend and play a lot of games .

Maybe I am a bit out of touch.. but gaming on a Mac? Is that a thing now?

You completely took that out of context. They didn't say Nintendo gamers aren't hardcore gamers by default, they simply said that if they don't at least play on PC or PS3 or 360 (in this case, in addition), then they're casuals.

And that's true. Nintendo fans have to supplement Nintendo consoles with PC or another console less they want to be stuck playing 3 games a year and miss out on every multiplat. Nintendo consoles are side consoles you buy for Nintendo games.

According to the requirements of the article...

If I spend 2 hours a week on Zombi U, 3 hours playing Persona 4 Golden, 6 hours playing Fire Emblem Awakening, and 2 hours playing Tomb Raider, I am not a hardcore gamer.

If I spend  5 hours a week playing Madden, I am a core gamer.

puh thank god i'm not in it..

For every oldshool gamer the term "core gamer" is a joke...just like "hardcore", "mature" and "kiddie"
I find it funny how many can say these things with a straight face.
I would laughing my a** off xD

ehh. no wait.. I play PC too....ahh man f*** -.-

This isn't clear:

Core Gamer Qualifications
In order to qualify as a core gamer, respondents had to:
• Currently play video games on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, a PC. or a Mac.
• Spend five or more hours per week gaming on any of these qualified devices.
• Play Action, Adventure, Fighting, Flight, Massively Multi-Player, Racing, Real Time Strategy, Role-Playing,
Shooter, or Sport games on any of those device

Is this respondents had to be one of the above to be 'core' or all of the above?

If it's only one then I agree. Afterall, if you only own a Nintendo console, play less than five hours per week and play only party and fitness games, then you are indeed a casual gamer.

But if you spend 20 hours on your Wii playing Brawl, Fire Emblem and Little King Story, you are definitely core. In fact a lot more core than Madden/CoD players.

Pretty much agree with this.

That first answer in the thread made me laugh real hard!

that only says that the majority of Nintendo gamers are mature gamers. They have other more important things to do, like taking care of their families.
The expert gamers are the old gamers, they are not going to spend money on mediocre games. They choose the good games over the mainstream games. Of course they don't spend more time than others playing all those mediocre games.

I know you're probably just looking for an argument, but all I can really feel is bad for you.  I hope this helps you sleep.  I mean that.

On topic, different organizations have different definitions, but I don't really know how to explain this, unless they thought neither the Wii U or the Wii were relevant enough at the moment to be included.  By most definitions, the system doesn't matter.  When I worked with Microsoft, they included probable demographic numbers, and it included criteria such as "comfortable with technology" and they also listed favored genres, but it really just broke down to "gaming is an important hobby to them".

Also "core" is not the same as "hardcore" at all.  They are no more the same as "hat" and "hardhat".

So we should take the definitions for gamers from a company who has only been in the business for less than half the time than nintendo to define their customers, seems legit.

On a more serious and educational note, gamers are people who play video games, no core or casual non sense.

Cool, I'm a hardcore gamer. Thanks NPD! I play COD like everyday so it is no surprise. Good to have a confirmation nonetheless.
