Forums - Gaming - Graphics vs Music

I can't wait until the day when midi and samples are looked down upon with the same digust as sub-HD is now. Not in older games, of course, but in new releases. I want consumers to expect live instruments the same way they expect HD graphics.

Same here, and I'm also still waiting for HD sound to appear. 96khz has long been possible, but we're still mucking around with stock samples and standard echo filters. A good 96/24 5.1 track sounds amazing.

Midi can still play a role, it's perfect for the likes of Fez and Shatter.
Although it's even better when mixing it in with live instruments, Tron Legacy's soundtrack for example. Do that in games :)

I vote for music over graphics.

A good soundtrack always makes me want to play a game again and again.

Sometimes, I play Final Fantasy VI just to listen to the Overworld theme of the game, and I don't care about the 16-bit graphics.

That song is so beautiful...

its kinda boring if you have a game without music.

Good graphics last 1-2 years, good music lasts forever.

Once I stop playing a game I immediately cannot remember if there even was music in the game.

Thats because a lot of games really have forgetable music. But everybody knows the Super Mario or Zelda soundtrack. So I´d say graphics and music are equally important

This is really like boobs vs vagina. Why choose? But if I have to, I choose boobs. Well, to be more clear, a vagina (graphics) is necessary to have any interaction at all. Boobs (music) are not. However a spectacular vagina is not that much better than an average one. However, spectatular boobs are rare and special and stay in your memory forever.

The music of Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Mega Man, KOTOR, Mass Effect, Halo... I catch myself humming these tunes all the time. They evoke emotion, memory, feeling. Good graphics are great but not lasting. More recently Xenoblade is a truly outstanding soundtrack that sticks in my head, and Last Story's work by nobuo uematsu took me back to my memories of FF. Graphics are great, but music has a greater impact to me.

Touche.  Vagina would be gameplay.
