Forums - Gaming - Why are people on these forums obsessed with exclusives but ignore multiplatform games?

It seems like every thread I go into all I see are people arguing or discussing exclusives. Which ones look the best, play the best, or sell the most. It seems like multiplatform games are almost completely ignored here at time's or at least never have near as much hype.

It has become a common saying on here how Xbox has no games. That is so far from the truth it's unbelievable. You could never buy an exclusive game for the Xbox and still have a fantastic library of titles.

Not to mention exclusives generally aren't even the best selling titles on a console. I'm down with discussing exclusive titles but it seems like great games aren't getting discussed a lot of the time due to silly console war battles.

Because exclusives are what sets consoles apart. Multiplat are just that, you can get them regardless of what system you own.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

Because exclusives are what differentiate the consoles, and make best use of their hardware.

Personally, I love plenty of multiplatform games; Mass Effect 2, Bioshock, and Bayonetta are among my favorite games of the 7th gen.

Multi-platform games can't be used as ammo in the console wars therefore they serve no real purpose.

I realize exclusive game's set consoles apart.

But this is a gaming forum and it seems like unless there's controversy most people on this site act like multiplatform games don't exist.

It's weird because most site's you go to there's tons of discussion about multi plat games

Tomb Raider is game of the year material and people are talking about it. I guess you are right, it's not getting the kind of discussion that Halo 4 and Uncharted 3 got, but I think people care about multiplatform games. It could just be that exclusives are used as ammo in stupid fanboy wars and that makes it look like people care more about exclusives. But the sales numbers for COD shows that people buy it on everything every year.

not necessarily right - a lot of "multiplatform" titles haven been PS360 this gen, so Wii only users were not able to access these

it called fanboy fuel. for me, i will buy the console that provides me the be the best version of multiplaform games because 95% of games are Multi platform, exculsives are way over hyped, many people hype them just for the fact that they are exclusive to the console they prefer, you can finish every exclusive game that's worth playing on ps3, in 2-3 months and then what?

That's true, but most people who buy Nintendo consoles don't do so wanting to play multiplats. Nintendo has their own brand and games that people come back for.

It's a decent game and may be a top contender for GoTY so far, but I seriously doubt it'll be held as GoTY by any noteworthy number of gamers or reviewers. Unless this year is relatively low quality which it looks like it won't.

OT: Very few people genuinely care about discussing games. Most are just interested in making their console seem superior. Exclusives are just one method to accomplish this. When exclusives are discussed, I believe for many people there's an underlying motivation to use that exclusive to 1up over another console rather than genuine interest, even of they aren't conscious of it. Multiplats are really only useful for most people when making Nintendo look bad
