Checked Wikipedia and this is what they say:

"However, a first-party game is a title which needs only to have been published by the manufacturer of the console (regardless of who owns the IP of the game)."

Going by this definition, Gears of War would be allowed even though MS don't hold the rights

This would mean a first-party IP does exist...

Sony owned Ip's. Grandia posted the MSFT one above

Those IPS are owned by Sony. What's so hard to understand.

@Long lists: Worthless lists because we're only looking at 360 and PS3 here. Not their entire portfolio

I am aware of that but someone could very easily go down both of those lists and find which ones was on X360/PS3 instead of making lists that are flawed like the OP's list

That is a list of IPs Microsoft owns from Wikipedia

REMOVED THE LIST

Yeap... that is the first-party IP from Microsoft... they own the rights and no other console can have these games without Microsoft agreement.

That's the Sony one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Computer_Entertainment#Owned_franchises_and_properties

The confusion is because first-party studio is different from first-party IP... a first-party studio can developer a third-party exclusive IP and a third-party studio can developer a exclusive first-party IP.

Said that look the the MS list didn't have Gears of Wars because it is a exclusive third-party IP developed by a third-party developer... the Epic can bring the Gears for PS3 when they want without consequences (maybe the MS friendship or money lol).

Now Demon's Souls is a exclusive first-party IP developed by a third-party developer... the third-party developer can't bring this game for other plataform... only Sony can make what they wants with Demon's Souls.

I dont think the problem is with demon's souls because it is clearly owned by Sony.  The problem is the Title is confusing.

He also has the lists screwed up and even has Alan Wake when it is third party.  He needs to go down each list and fix them because he has titles that shouldnt be on the list and is missing a ton of titles from both lists.

With that said Im done here.  I expect him to fix this when he signs back on.

Wow were you have this list from 80% of this are random placeholder names were there was never a game releasd with this name for example eight days the game or the IP never was released, it was canceld in 2008 and there are lots of names were the IP never really existed.

Sony has only put out 2 more new IPs than M$ this gen?

Sony's abandonment of the core gamer CONFIRMED.

But this Sony list is full of lies there are IPs in it like eight days who was canceld and the IP not exist. I think at least 70% of this Sony list is filled with random names were the IP never existed.

The same from Microsoft list... Project Millo lol.

These are IPs registred... if the IP come the be a real game is another thing but Sony and Microsoft register the IP trademark because the development even if the game is cancelled in the future... so you can make a new game this IP.

You know... IP is not physical... it is a virtual copyright.

Heavy Rain is not a Sony IP, Quantic Dream holds the rights to Heavy Rain ;o
