To start off I must say that I've ever only enjoyed Final Fantasy VIII, IX, X and Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 as JRPGs. Everything else I've tried has been too painfully slow or painfully anime for me to bear for more than a few hours - i.e. Dark Cloud II, Star Ocean Till the end of time, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XIII and a lot more that I can't remember -.

Soooo...I'm curious if there actually is something good out there and I'd be happy to hear some recommendations for a good game - PS1, PS2, PS3 or GBA-.

the only JRPG i love that isn't animeish is xenoblade but that is a wii game

Xenoblade....but you don't own a Wii so I'd say maybe Golden Sun for GBA, or the Tales game coming this Summer.

You could always try Demon's/Dark Souls.

Grandia 1(PS1) and 2(PS2) are good JRPGs.

Vandal Hearts 1 and 2 if you like Strategy RPGs (PS1)
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete( might be too "anime" for you) (PS1)

Quick note: I generally consider Demon's / Dark Souls to be WRPGs because of the story and aesthetics of the games. I've played both, platinumed both and are among my all time favorite games.

Wow...quite a lot of recommendations coming in. I'll have to look through a few to see what stands out for myself, probably on the PS2 as it's the cheapest to get right now.

Breath of Fire 1-4 (5 is pretty bad), Grandia 1 & 2, Final Fantasy 1-7, Final Fantasy Tactics, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete + sequel, Jade Cocoon, Threads of Fate, Golden Sun 1 & 2, White Knight Chronicles, Ni No Kuni... I think I've had a lapse.
