In terms of games coming out soon, Bioshock Infinite could do the trick. Otherwise we'll probably be waiting for the fall season for more games reaching 90+.

Just a list of possible candidates

Rome Total War 2
GTA5
Last of Us
Mario and Luigi 4

I'd say Bioshock Infinite but a season pass for campaign content is a punch to the dick and I predict some critics won't stand for it.

The Last of Us breaking it is wishful thinking. Critical reception of "cinematic experiences" has been going downhill. Just look at UC3 - better than UC2 in every way, but people are just not thrilled anymore with heavily scripted segments in games.

You'll see.

A few has a chance like The Last of Us and GTA. We also have a lot of unannounced games coming from next gen so let's wait

I'd love for it to stay on top, but Bioshock, GTA, 3D mario, Last of Us, beyond two souls, pikmin 3, and plenty of unannounced games are still coming.

This is a ridiculous year for gamers, no matter if FE loses, we all win.

FE will be the highest rated handheld game though easily. It's truly amazing.

The Last of Us or GTA V

It's hard to say. Critics have been far less leinient in the past year than ever before. Heck in 2012 no retail "AAA" game even managed a 90+ on all platforms it came out on.  Only the indies like Journey, The Walking Dead(Full game), and Trials Evolution were able to.

This year, Bioshock Infinite, Grand Theft Auto V, and 3d Mario probably have the best chance of dethroning it. They have all had prequels that have scored 96+. I don't expect them to get a 96 again but I think a 93 might be possible out of one of them.

Last of Us also has a small shot of doing so. New IPs seem to get rated more leniently. So if Last of Us seriously impresses it has a tiny chance to get a 93. But that is assuming a lot for a new IP, even if naughty dog is developing. Their only game with a meta above 92 is Uncharted 2.

I really don't think any other major title coming out this year will come close. Other than some new ips we don't know much about or indie games.

I'm inclined to agree. I think people are getting way too hyped over this game, and that comes from someone who wants to play The Last of Us more than any game from 2013.

A few games that I think have a chance to top it:

BioShock Infinite
Grand Theft Auto V
Pikmin 3
Super Mario 3D (Wii U)
The Wind Waker HD (I know it sounds strange, but Ocarina 3D pulled in a 94)
Tearaway

I'd say Grand Theft Auto V, Mario 3D (if it's released this year) and maybe Bioshock Infinite. I don't think Pokemon will get a 92, but if it does, I'll be very happy. Oh, and Zelda Wind Waker HD, specially if nintendo adds some new dungeons.

Wait... isn't Watch_Dogs releasing this year too? That might be a critical darling of a new IP.
