Markuss Person shouldn't talk, Minecraft doesn't even have dedicated servers, and his new game is going to implode much harder.

You're kidding right?

why would I be kidding?

Peer to Peer, you set your own servers so you and your friends can play.

Didn't Diablo 3 have similar issues at launch?

Oh yes indeed. Other games on Origin also have issues, especially Battlefield 3. Its been suffering from from problems since launch, you would think that they had time to get their shit together 1 1/2 years after release. Seems that's not the case with EA.

They won't stop making games that are always online DRM protected, they'll simply insist every time that the "issues are fixed" and keep on doing what they do best (screw customers).

That's how most PC games work. (community owned servers)

And that's not p2p. p2p means that the game is hosted client-side (your home internet connection) where other people can join your session and play.

This is how the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft works as well as most online console games. A p2p connection is dependent on the Host. Have you ever played CoD, only to be greeted with a host-migration loading screen? That means the host has quit and the game must find a new host or it will end.

p2p is often very laggy, impractical and is virtually non-existant in PC gaming.

Dedicated Servers on the other hand mean that a proper online game server (usually rented from companies like http://www.gameservers.com/) has been dedicated the task of running the game (instead of a home network like in p2p).

This is much more practical since the game runs on fast-speed server hardware instead of a home network.

Less lag, no need to worry about "Hosts", the game is always there even when no players are online, waaaay more players can join etc...

This is the system that Minecraft and most PC games use.

But, aren't you from France? Why did you get the game?

After all this thing, and people will still support their game. -.-

This type of DRM seems somewhat conterproductive, to be honest. It hurts the consumer, and it hurts the reputation of companies like EA, as well. Especially in botched cases like Sim City. Is there any legitimate reason why they can't just have the game do an online check at startup and be done with it?

I think you got it wrong, hear me out.

on call of duty , you run a server by being a host sure, but you are still using Activision's servers, you are just being the host , a second part connection to the main server (activision) and when you log off, thats why it searches for a new server instead of just logging off.

the same is true for a lot of console games.

on minecraft what you do is set an actual server, like a computer on the side so it can run a server and then use ANOTHER computer to invite your friends to the game and as long as this server is up , its going to play, Mojang has no connection to you at all, hence no dedicated server clients thing, on XBL it uses XBL's servers, just like any console game.

While I know what you're talking about, I have no idea why you think Minecraft is going to implode.  You don't require an Internet connection to play the game last I heard.

Sim City does.  Sim City requires you to connect to their server.

his other game is  "Always online" MMO , what I am saying is that he shouldn't talk about that , because given how massive his fanbase is, his new game is going to have the same issues.
