So I finally played all the way through Journey and it was pretty good.

Right after I finished the game I just sat and thought for a few minutes reflecting on it and it kind of made me depressed.  I will say that is incredibly powerful though as not many games have made me actually reflect on life.  Not to mention I think I had more emotions go through me in the 2 hours it took to beat it than many full length games have made me feel.

So was anyone else left slightly depressed after finishing the game?

Yeah, I think the developers wanted the game to be depressing and sad. That would explain why the main character is a magical tissue (Kleenex perhaps); this acts as a subliminal source of sorrow, depression, and a host of other emotions not found in many games.

life can be depressing if we dwell upon it, struggling to survive, eventually dying, nobody is going to live forever, preferably because of old age and not alone. This game makes you think about that, so in that sense it does make you a little depressed, but it's something we should think about, to better prioritize our lives. Your only here once. The game brings out emotions, which is a good thing.

Awesome

This is like when my english lit class reads into a poem way too much

Depressing like the fell of be alone in the world... so yeah I agree.

But the last part of the game when you fly makes me happy and completed like now I can die because I already finished my reason to live.. so I felt released for the freedom.

No other game topped that in emotion feelings... I will wait one or two years to play again to see if I have now another epic journey with differents feelings.

I really need to play Journey. I just started playing To The Moon. I have a feeling that it's going to be depressing too...:/

...but worth it in the end

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Not at all. I started out alone and was alone for the first couple of levels, then I met a person and we stuck together for the remainder of the game. Every time we'd briefly get separated, I got incredibly anxious and kept calling for them until we found each other again. At one point on the last level he failed to make a jump and fell off the screen, and without a second thought or knowing what was down there, I jumped right after him rather than get separated again when we were clearly so close to the summit. Pretty crazy how you can get that emotionally attached to an anonymous figure!

By the time we flew into the light, I was too busy marveling at the greatest co-op experience of my life to be depressed.

Now, if he had ditched me in the spooky underground and I had to finish the game all by myself... yeah, I would have been super bummed. So I can see how it might differ based on the pacing of your experience.

I thought it was pretty life-affirming. But when you see something so grandiose and poignant and it finishes and you return to your mundane life in your dark bedroom afterwards yeh it can feel a tad depressing, kind of a double edged sword in that regard.

The only depressing part was when your partner disappears and you have to climb the snowy mountain on your own. Otherwise, I found the game to be really moving and cheerful. It makes you realise how much emotion we can put into the simplest of things.
