Forums - Sales - So it's widely known as a fact that many Nintendo games have ridiculous legs. But here's the question that no one really bother to ask...why is this so?

Better games obviously.

The numbers don't lie.

My guess is that the evergreen titles appeal to a broad base that often includes that always underestimated "casual" segment. Every year some few million kids turns 8 and can now handle more advanced game mechanics. This segment doesn't care if Mario Galaxy is 2 years old or 5 years old. If it looks fun and appeals to both parents and kids it's gold.

Zelda is a bit above that level to where kids are picking their own games and are far more interested in games that are the new thing all their friends play. FE is much more for the high school and up crowd that would enjoy strategy and this demographic is likely to either get stuff when it releases or not at all

This seems like the best answer so far.

So you agree Nintendo is a kids console and Nintendo games are for kids? Glad we cleared that up.

Mario is really the only one. Pokemon, Zelda, Fire Emblem, etc are frontloaded

I'd assume that this actually has good legs.

Animal crossing too, Mario isn't the only one.

What? Pokemon is heavily frontloaded and has horrible legs. Animal Crossing and Smash are in between

Because their games are so crappy, people kept re-buying them since they don't remember having bought and played already. Why else would the price be the same as 5 years ago?

No I agree with the "new audience" thing.

Disney did the same thing wayy back when they released their movies every 7 years or so for another generation of kids.

It was like Bambi-Tarzan-Snow White-Cinderella-some other thing-some other thing-repeat/

They still have better legs than most games do.

Sorry but not Pokemon.

because.... because...
new gamer or first time gamer that would pick up nintendo game is almost absolute that they will pick up first party game....
how many 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th.... birthday we have in a year that will game a nintendo console? a lot.... ok maybe not so much on wii u.

simply because they are good games. On the opposite, mediocre games sales will slump because from mouth to mouth they are known as not good, while good games are worth to pick any time you have the chance. It has nothing to do with casual or experienced gamers. The are some experienced gamers that has a vast library of games, and sometimes they just stop buying games in order to catch up with the new ones, then they start buying the good games they missed on that period.

People talk about mature games as if all of them are good. Look at the massive library of games on both the XBOX and PS3. Put them all together in one basket, separate the good ones from the mediocre ones, you will notice that new basket is around third of the original. In the same case, most of those games don't have those long legs because of that same reason. Besides, not all Nintendo games have those legs.
