Forums - Sales - So it's widely known as a fact that many Nintendo games have ridiculous legs. But here's the question that no one really bother to ask...why is this so?

What gives Nintendo games such massively drawn out sales periods and 8year long shelf lives?

Well there isn't any other game worth buying. Can Yup imagine how much Wii U would have sold with out Mario? It would be worse off that the Virtual Boy.

Well I recon everyone who bought the Wii U did so not for Mario but to prove to the New World Order who is really in charge.

Dude, you are just guessing and asserting your opnion as fact...You've literally no idea why people bought the Wii U; you are just presuming it was for Mario.

Well it makes a lot more sense than what you are saying. Most would agree.

But nevertheless it is pure speculation with absolutely no evidence to support it whatsoever.

IPs that are more popular among a more casual, less informed audience have better legs (e.g.: Gran Turismo).

Most Nintendo's IPs are like these, with some exceptions like Zelda, that have more core followers that know when the game is releasing, want to play it asap, etc.

No offense, but you people REALLY need to quit talking in "casual" and "core" terminology. Those terms were fucking annoying when they first started being used, and they're still fucking annoying now.

How about this? Most big Nintendo franchises "have legs" because they happen to be GOOD games? Or is that not a good enough answer in today's "overanalyse everything" world? lol

Ok, change "more casual" for "wider" audience.

Plenty of good games are very frontloaded because their audience is different.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

You really have to love how certain folks claim "Oh, it's just nostalgia", implying that people remember how great old games were, implying that it's NOT that newer Nintendo games are really much good. Right.

Even though games like Twilight Princess, Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario Galaxy got some of THE best ratings in gaming history. Some of the most highly regarded games in gaming history. But yeah....it's "just nostalgia".

Meanwhile, people piling on to buy new Resident Evil? Tomb Raider? Final Fantasy? NOT nostalgia at all, right folks?

And so did GTA IV, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 and even Modern Warfare 2. The ratings don't actually mean much most of the time.

Next argument, bitte.

GTA IV was a good game. It just wasn't as good as it predecessors

two of my brothers bought a wii and both had nothing to do with gaming before. one bought the wii for himself and the other for my nephew and niece. both bought mario kart and one bought new super mario brothers with the console without any clue if they are good or not but it has mario on it and that was pretty much the whole reason because even they knew mario.

they read no gaming magazines and they were probably never on a gaming site on the internet so what is the logical consequence? they buy something they already heard about, something with mario and if they like those games which is a very high possibility they buy the next game with mario even if it is already years old. how should they even know if it is few years old or why should they even care? they want a game with mario and if it isn't as cheap as some other games they will still buy it.

it's obviosuly not the nintendo core gamers who buy nintendo games like mario even years after release because they buy the games on release or the weeks/months later and not 3 years later

Well, paper Mario is a 3D exclusive now, and so is Kid Icarus.

Paper Mario finally got the gameplay mechanics down, so I'm sure they will go back to focusing more on the storyline with the next Paper Mario 3DS.

Its ironic how paper Mario use to be a home console exclusive,,but now it's the other way around. So don't look for it on the Wii U, because it will never go 2D again.

Also "Spirit Camera: the Cursed Memoir" is a 1st Party Nintendo IP that is good.
