I have been very disappointed in Square-Enix this gen.  Honestly, I can't think of a single game this gen that really had the quality of SE's game from last gen.  The fact that after 7 years we are still waiting for FFXIII Versus doesn't help much.  However, I am an optimist, and after reading some reviews on the new Tomb Raider, I think Square Enix is finally starting to get it's head out of it's ass and making quality games again.  I could be wrong and Tomb Raider could just be a fluke game.  Does anyone else think SE might finally be paying attention to the gamers for the first time this gen and giving us what we want, even if it is just a small start?

EDIT: I did forget that Star Ocean: The Last Hope was fairly decent.  I never played the Deus Ex games, but I'll take people's word that they are good.  

I think most people are going to hold Crystal Dynamics separate from internal Square development.

what about the deus ex human revolution game, i thought that a great game from them too. i know ppl didnt like ff13 but i loved it. i know there quality of games has taken a hit this gen and that i agree with, but i loved the deus ex game,ff13 and star ocean game from them this gen.

Square bought Eidos and allowed them to finish development of games that had already been in progress for a long time. I don't think there's anything to praise about them just yet.

The one thing I would say is that they seem to be embracing throwing advertising money behind these games. Deus Ex seemed to have quite a lot and there is a Tomb Raider advert on every time I switch on the TV here in the UK. Which is helpful, as I don't feel Eidos would've had the same resources to get exposure.

No, they haven't redeemed themselves at all.

Uhm, not, not even close. First of all, it has nothing to do with Square besides publishing and secondly, Tomb Raider is a complete departure from the series and combines all the gimmicks of the 7th into an action title.
Square Enix, like Bioware, likely won't produce a great game ever again, through development or publishing.

well, all Eidos games since the acquisition are really great.   But that was a lucky strike for SE.  I will stop think bad things about them, when SE internal team make great console games again. 

This is the point, Eidos is awesome Deus Ex was great, the new tomb raider is great and thief 4 looks also very promising.

But this has noting to do with the other parts of Square Enix, the Japan Final Fantasy part is still the same which made FF13 and FF14.
