Forums - Microsoft - Rare staffs up for "jaw-dropping, never-been-done-before" physics-driven Kinect project

Rare's posted a bunch of job vacancies for its mysterious new Kinect project, which (given the timing) is all but guaranteed to be a next generation Xbox game. They don't tell us much that's new, but I like to keep these things ticking over.

The developer is in the market for a an experienced, passionate and highly technical engineer to help us deliver the services that will power our next amazing product." This illustrious individual will be responsible for the creation of "large scale distributed systems with a focus on scalability, reliability and maintainability" and will "[drive] continuous improvement through rapid iteration and short ship cycles". Experience with cloud based services is "desirable".

There's also a region design manager to assist with "the next jaw-dropping, never-been-done-before Rare project". Advantageous criteria include "experience of motion gaming, especially Kinect technology".

Finally, an expert physics engineer is sought to "deliver advanced game engine software for use within the studio" and "ensure that content authoring tools and the asset pipeline efficiently fulfill the evolving needs of physics based gameplay and animation."

Put all this together, and (assuming it's for one and but the one project) you're looking at a cloud-based Kinect game that leans heavily on realistic physics. My money's on a new incarnation of Kinect Sports with dramatically enhanced multiplayer, where you can track your fitness and perform activities across phones, tablets and computers. Thrilling stuff. Ah well, maybe they'll throw in another Viva Pinata to keep us grumpy old lethargy enthusiasts happy.

Rare's latest is one of nine secret next gen Xbox projects we're dying to uncover. By all means check out the remaining eight.

Kinect? LOL!

It still an utter and complete shame that Microsoft has one of THE greatest developers in gaming lore making remarkably banal kinect projects for "casuals". Core gamers do not want these products. Rare is a "core gamers" developing company to its very....CORE. It's like MS doesn't respect gaming or gaming history if they will seriously not let Rare express their brilliance in a platformer or uh.....KILLER INSTINCT 3 maybe!!!! (and yes, they actually could have made KI3 a long time ago before the dispute over the name patent even became an issue).

I just honestly believe MS has nothing but contempt for gaming and they are literally trying to turn the gaming industry into the cell phone/tablet industry and to hell with "core gaming". For them, it's all about ways to exploit the userbase and make money. For the CEO's and heads at the top of the Microsoft heirarchy, I guess it's great business. For everyone else, ESPECIALLY THE CONSUMER, it's an absolute horror. I just can't spend my hard earned money supporting a company that has such anti-consumer business models. CANT DO IT!

dance dance kinect

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

*reads tittle up to* "Rare staffs up for "jaw-dropping, never-been-done-before" physics-driven" my thoughts are hopefully this will bring rare back to its awesomness it once had. then reads "Kinect project". then im like ah who gives a shit

Nice catch, but why put them all together, they may very well be completely unrelated to each other.

But Rare on a big Kinect game is great news.

Is Molyneux running Rare now?

This has nothing to do with that demo they have. You are not going to post all these new job listings for a game that is rumored to be a launch title and already has a demo.

This is most likely for their next project since they are starting to hire now.

Lol. *facepalm*

I thought Rare weren't dealing with Kinect anymore and their series were being handled by other studios. At least that's what someone lead me to believe on this site.

Wikipedia lists them as having over 200+ employees so that's at least 2 teams. Perhaps one kinect game and one core game?
