I don't see the issue. It lets us see what reviewing users think about a game as a product. Unlike game reviewers, the consumer has to put up with things like price, accessibility, bugs, etc., so their opinions more properly reflect those of the masses. Thus, user ratings on metacritic et al. are incredibly useful for seeing what consumers actually value, e.g. cost, DRM, not being on Sony hardware, low availability, etc.
