in 2020? will "people" even care about the 7th gen.  cause if they do whats that say about the 8th gen heading out to the 9th?

People today still talk about PS and PS2... so I think the gaming press and users like us will remember for sure.

Its gonna come close. Best 3rd place system of all time.
How can it be the best 3rd place system of all the time if it will finish in 1st (or at least 2nd)?

People still talk about The Sega Dreamcast, Saturn, Genensis, and every Nintendo console, hell even the Atari 2600 which was the longest lived comsole at 15 years? What's your point?

It will all depend on the software support i guess. I can still see Gt6 and Final Fantasy Versus being announced at e3 to be released this fall, both PS1 and PS2 had a GT and a major FF game at the end of their life cycle. All it needs then is a price cut and and a few major franchises like COD, AC and EA sports games and it's golden.

Just for some context, the systems who won each generation, won because it sold the most during that generation, not after. Meaning, after the new systems come the generation is over and cannot retroactively declare because the system pass the first finisher several years later. Do you that the Sega Genesis still sells pretty in South America? So if that ever happens to pass the SNES, are we going to say it won the fourth generation?

The Atari 2600,NES,SNES, PS1, PS2, who their generations because they sold the most in the years of those generations, not after.

i think it all depends on gt6 to be honest

No, the PS3 sales are not going to top Wii. For one thing, Wii is still selling. For another, once the PS4 comes out, the PS3 is NOT going to have the legs/life that the PS2 once did. Sony already suffered through cannibalizing their own sales with PS2 vs. PS3, I don't think they are going to do that again. And even on the off chance that PS3 DID wind up overtaking total Wii sales worldwide............what would be the POINT? That would be like the guy who sunk the 3 pointer AFTER the final buzzer, don't you think? You can't be the "market leader" when the next gen has already started.

With so many inevitable price cuts for PS3 down the line, and with blu-ray not going anywhere soon, I have no doubt that it will hit 100M several years from now.

Also from IGN:

Number off upcoming ps3 games: 156(and still growing)

Number off upcoming Wii games: 7

Also the PS3 number consists of some major titles( GTA V for example) and it will have decent software support after this year aswell.
