Worse launch?

PS3 394 56.85%

Wii U 299 43.15%

Total:693

Early sales, who cares. Seeing there are no big games for Wii U yet, I'd say they made a wise move in launching early without huge sales so now they can fix all the issues and listen to what the early adopters dislike. Much better in the end. Might as well say Sony did the same on PS3 but they lost so much money ..

There were more mistakes made with the PS3 early in its life-cycle, without question. However, Sony managed to turn things around quite well, and the PS3 ended up being a popular product. The Wii U still has a chance to become a success, obviously, but if it doesn't, then I would have to change my answer. There are a lot of things that Nintendo needs to address regarding the Wii U.

The launch? PS3, with no question. The launch line-up was pathetic (the main attraction was "Lair" for gods sake), the price was ridiculous, they took all 3rd party support for granted despite contructing a machine with stupid, developer unfriendly architecture and they were even stupid enough to keep the hardware unavailable in their biggest market by far for almost half a year. Atrocious launch.

Nintendo's biggest fault was lack of advertising, hardly anyone knew the thing was coming out. The pricing was good and the launch line-up arguably the best anyone has seen.

Now, had the question been "which console was handhled the worst right after launch?" or "which console was constructed most poorly and forced onto a market that didn't want it?", the answer would be the Wii U.

The launch itself though, the PS3 by miles.

The PS3's launch was a fuck-up of biblical proportions.

-Launching $200+ more expensive than the competition.
-Still managing to lose $200+ per unit sold (this alone makes it win)
-No games
-Releasing one year late
-Having super-weird architecture
-No friking rumble (I mean, seriously, if they couldn't get that straight...)
-Lame ass network
-99% of PS exclusives lost (thank God for MGS4, Sony owes Kojima big time).
-Promise of backwards compatibility only to remove it immediately.
-Stupid PR (two jobs, generation starts when we say so, etc.)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something. The fact that it may still sell close to 100m units says a lot about how strong the PS brand was, but they sure tried hard to destroy it in mere months.

The concept behind WiiU is extremely flawed, but it just can't compare to what PS3 cost Sony.

Definitely PS3. One of the worst launches ever. Sony was coming off an absolutely dominant generation with PS2 and botched it up to fall way behind. They sold the system at too high a price, lost over 50% of their market share, lost money on the system, lost most of their 3rd party exclusives. And as bad as Wii U has been selling, PS3 sold worse.

Wii U had a decent launch, but has flatlined brutally. But, it's still better off than the launch of either PS3 or XBox 360. At the rate it's currently trending it will fall to worse than those, but it also had two months without new games so it may pick up again with new titles. The real thing is with Wii U is that it's launch is more like 360. It's the first out of the gate, it's competing with cheaper last-gen systems and it has some growing pains to work out. But it's doing so before the competition launches, which is the key. PS3 was launching from behind from the get-go.

For more than a month now the Wii U has been selling worse than the PS3 ever did, even before it launched in Europe.  As for Europe, the PS3 did more in two weeks in March than the Wii U has done in 13 weeks.  At its current rate it will take another 10 weeks to reach the PS3's two week sales.  In the US the PS3 will probably be ahead after four months when we get the February NPD numbers.  In Japan the Wii U is ahead overall, but it also took just 12 weeks to fall below 10k while the PS3 took 27 weeks.

I'm not quite sure what the point of your post is.  Are you saying that PS3 sold better?  As I said, the WiiU is trending poorly at the moment as sales flatlined after Christmas.  As of right now it is well ahead, but is trending to be just slightly above at the end of March when the PS3 Euro launch comes into play.  Of course the WiiU could also start to sell worse or better in March.  But as of right now WiiU has sold better based on the success of its first few months.

Wii U

Just for the name, the make a addon for the Wii. Here we all Know its not. But for Grand majority of the public, they think and they will think; * it's just a other kind of addon like the Wii , Wii Draw, etc.

Its pretty sure they wanted to use the Wii success to take some advance, but it doesn't work.

If they change de Name of the Console Just for the '' U ''. you'll see some kind of a new spirite.

Just the name was a BIG startup Error.

PS3. nintendo ain't losing hundreds of dollars on each unit.

This. Nintendo is doing an astounding amount of things wrong with the Wii U's launch, but when everything's said and done it will not have single-handedly caused billions of dollars in losses for the company.

As much as i would like to say, its the PS3. With the system being overpriced and its poor launch titles and F'uped architecture. Sony shot themselves in the foot.

PS3 had a disastrous launch.

Wii U should have never been launched.

PS3, for sure. Wii U was handled fine and NoA did a decent job playing the hand they were dealt. Wii U's one and only problem is a three-month drought of software that is literally painful to watch.

I've said it in other threads... Wii U was not ready to launch last year. The quantity of attractive first-party games that get people's attention was lacking. I have never seen a weaker first-party launch lineup for a Nintendo home console since before N64.

GameCube had Luigi, Smash, and Pikmin. N64 had Mario 64. Wii had Twilight Princess and Wii Sports.

Wii U had.... Nintendo Land and another NSMB game. Yikes.
