Forums - Sales - Sony "was the No.1 console maker in the UK last year"

That's an interesting spin on things. "Our current gen offerings are flopping compared to others, so we will lump all of our hardware combined, handhelds, home consoles, this gen, last gen, lump 'em all in! Now our numbers look good :)" Said by Sony executives.

It is spin because the comparison is based on samples that are no where near similar. Their statement is true, but it is spot on for the definition of "spin" to make something appear much more positive than it actually is.

Should Microsoft include all Kinects sold as "console hardware" or stretch the definition even farther to include other controllers and peripherals as "console hardware" to spin it even farther???

I also like how "the troves of Sony guys" on the site all came into this thread to say the same thing. Sony major victory huzzah! Not spin at all!

Fixed.

I also like how "the 4 MS guys" on the site all came into this thread to say the same thing. Somehow it is spin to say it just as it is. PS brand>Nintendo brand>Xbox brand. It's not Sony's fault MS don't have anything else than 360 to sell in the console market.

Its a bit hard not hard to especially when one of your loyal followers on the front page saying "I thought Sony lost in the UK"

VGC numbers:

Microsoft: 28.45%
Nintendo: 40%
Sony: 31.55%

Seems like we have Nintendo over and Sony undertracked if they also counted DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, PSP, Vita, PS3 and 360

PlayStation undertracked confirmed in UK.

Should Pepsico not claim to be the biggest beverage company just because coca-cola is the top soda beverage?

It's quite a similar story, those two. Pepsi just could not win against Coke in the cola market, so what did it do? It became number one in virtually every single other beverage market. Is it spin to say that Pepsico>Coca-cola? No.

The reality YOU and the ms guys here seem to be pushing is that 360 is the best selling console in the UK. Sure. Have that. PS and Nintendo are bigger brands. How is one statement spin and the other, not? This coming from a company that says things like "Double every other console combined (but really only referring to ps3 and wiiu)"

Im still waiting for a legitimate reason. Anyone. Give me a reason. Tell me how its spin.

How is comparing PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox "spin"? If it was PS v 360 alone, sure. 3 platforms vs 1 is legit spin. He didnt do that though. He spoke about the entire market. He spoke about ALL Nintendo platforms and ALL PlayStation platforms.

PlayStation as a console brand was bigger in the UK last Year. Fact. That is no spin. They beat Nintendo and Xbox in 2012.

Seriously:
MS fans: This is spin because 360 is clearly superior to ps3 and wii, yet the numbers don't show the whole picture:
Sony fans: This is not spin because Sony is saying that their brand was the strongest and showed numbers illustrating it.

Sony is talking about brand, and marketshare.
MS fans are talking about consoles only.

Funny thing is, I bet the year before, Sony wasn't the market leader, and now they are. MS fans think this still means nothing.

I think PS3 alone will outsell the 360 this year in UK.

It is mostly how the statements are interpretted that make them spin. Like people on here in the first few posts getting confused by it or thinking it meant something more than "the brand sold more".

Hence the reason for delivering the statement the way it was delivered. All companies do it. I am not trying to say that Sony is somehow different or bad for doing this. I am merely correcting the people on here that think this Sony statement was NOT spin.

It is, not matter what other examples or analogies you try to throw at it. Your examples are also spin from different companies/markets.
