The 2D one is super Metroid (the one prof suggested to ya). It's one of my fav games of all time, do play it but I'm not sure if you'll get it. Back then, games like that are what today games like The Last Guardian are, very big game. Today we don't appreciate the details a game like that offers.

I hope you do enjoy it though.

Ahh kk. You're right, I don't know if I'll get it, I tend not to like critically acclaimed 2D games outside of Sonic, Mario and Pokemon. I'll still give it a try though, is it on Wii VC?

Yup, it is. Give it a chance, it may take a while to get into because you need to power up a bit and the beginning is a bit quiet (intentionally).

Zelda all the way. I really do like Metroid, but after what Nintendo did, they really let Samus drop the ball... literally

Definitely Zelda!

I think all the Metroid games were good (except for Metroid 2 and Echoes) but it never gave me that epic feeling.. I dunno it's surprising how this franchise has survived to this day.

Skyward Sword was good overall (even if disappointing) while Other M was mediocre gameplay wise and terrible story wise.

 

Zelda is generally better, though Metroid won on the Gamecube (MP1 > Wind Waker > MP2), tied on GBA (Zelda: Minish Cap and Metroid Fusion) and tied on SNES (LttP and Super Metroid are equally amazing). For Wii, if you count Twilight Princess (otherwise, I consider it better than MP2 but worse than Wind Waker for Gamecube), then Twilight Princess = SS > MP3 >>>> Other M, so Zelda won on Wii,

 

That's from a quality perspective, but from a sales perspective, Zelda has almost always been superior. Metroid Fusion slightly outsold Minish Cap, so that's one win for Metroid, but the GBA ALttP port out sold all Metroid games on GBA combined.
