That gives the press a chance to actually do full write ups about it.  They have full access to the hardware, full information, and they can disemminate it in aricles for publication in March.

But surely it is all going to leak out?

And that's what they hope for: rumour mill with more and more details leaking but nobody can be sure it is authentic. That way they build anticipation of the official release.

If they offer very limited access, no.  What can happen is, let's say OXM is given the opportunity to first reveal, IGN may "scoop" them by publishing their article a day early. 

I'm not saying there won't be any leaks.  But I doubt the press will be the ones who leak it.  Employees, which it appears have been tight lipped so far, would be the likely source.
