Sony killing the vita confirmed.

As a standalone product, Vita would be dead, if Sony mananged to sell 40 million Vita's by bundling them with PS3's and PS4's, I wouldn't consider that a success in the slightest.
| walsufnir said: Wow, that's wrong. The ARM used in PS4 is compatible with other ARMs but it's compatible as a Pentium 1 was with Pentium 4, e.g., if you leave out the new instructions that P4 offered. The ISA (Instruction Set Architecture) is the same but not performace, so no, this won't happen. |
no read it againL:
The Cortex-A5 processor provides full instruction and feature compatibility with the higher performance Cortex-A8, Cortex-A9, and Cortex-A15 processors - all the way down to the operating system level. The Cortex-A5 processor also maintains backwards application compatibility with Classic ARM processors including the ARM926EJ-S, ARM1176JZ-S, and ARM7TDMI®.
remember this is not about the x86 part its about the Arm cortex part, which you pointed out is not the same performance, but aaah we do not know what speed or how many cores does this A5 have?
Say IF is this is a

if its does work then it would only seem sensible if at all, to be able to play the vita games on the ps4 after purchasing the game for the vita first

look at it this way, How would this stop the PSVita from being just another Mobile device that can run Playstation Software?
I mean does it stop Sony from making PSVita only exclusives? I think its more about building up a true unfied Playstation "Platform" Ecosystem than it is about just one Mobile Handheld device, Imean even Yoshida even stated recently that its getting harder and harder for them to make it a real viable alternative to mobile devices that people are already using smartphones and Tablets as the #1 choice any way. the fact that Sony recognises this fact already show's that they may be looking at the dedicated handheld market in a grounded view, i mean they sell over 9 million xperia smart devices a sales Quarter. the PSVita is the least selling Mobile device they have!

Ok, again: You say PS4 has an A5 in it, right? How many cores? Clocked with which frequency? Also the A9 used in Vita is, as you already said, has more performance *and* 4 cores. Compatible means just compatible, not "is able to run the same apps with the same performance". That's what I meant when using the comparison in x86-terms. The A9 doesn't have a better performance because of frequency but because of a better internal architecture/better pipeline/branch-prediction and so on - as every processor iteration evolves.
And obviously it would have to feature Vita's PowerVR-GPU ...

If that happens goodbye Vita! I hope it happens

I dunno, I feel as a device, the Vita should function as a standalone product, which just ain't happening right now. Bundling it with PS3's and PS4's wouldn't help that, I think Sony would be better just to release a PSP-esque system if they wanted a cheap combination of a WiiU style device/ecosystem. Vita is too strong to just be bundled with the PS3 and PS4, but isn't strong enough to succedd on its own :/

this was AMD +Sony building this, AMD was already designing their chips with the A5 adding multiple A5 cores would not be unheard of. remember Sony has been one of the top leader's in 3D Stacked TSV packageing for SOC's.
