no its not undertracked. that number is including rentals/second hand games. actually by the time this was photo was released david cage said that about a million people played the game second hand, and it cost them between 10~15 million bucks.

The fuck?

thats what i remember him saying, he meant that if those people bought the game they would have made 10~15 million bucks. it didnt actually cost them that but if those people actually bought it they would have made that money

All stats were most likely collected by looking at people's trophies, so three million different PSN accounts have played the game. Since you can have multiple accounts on one system, borrow/lend games or buy used games, the amount of players can easily exceed the number of copies sold.

All data being collected via PSN accounts also means that the actual number of Heavy Rain players is higher as not everyone has their PS3 connected to the internet.

^^ this. this pretty much explains the entire situation

All right, super thanks guys. Guess I could've figured it out on my own, I blame it on being tired ^^.

Them used games sales.

Here is the link saying it http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2011-09-12-quantic-dream-we-lost-and-8364-10m-on-second-hand-heavy-rain-sales

I think the developers just said a little over a million people bought the game or something like that a few weeks ago.

Link please. On wikipedia it says over 2 million sold and vgchartz has it at 2.28m.

Sorry. The article said 2 million. Someone posted the article in the thread already. He says they sold exactly 2 million copies so they are actually overtracked.

Heavy Rain has sold over 1 million copies worldwide, surpassing the developer's initial pre-release estimates of 200,000 – 300,000. At GDC 2011, Cage announced the title has SOLD OVER 2 MILLION COPIES.

That was 2 years ago, So i'm pretty sure it sold more then 2million.

Used game sales plus different PSN accounts on the same console.
The sales are about right.

I still remember when Heavy Rain's first week sales were revealed, surprised pretty much everybody except CGI-Quality. Good times.
