Forums - Nintendo - Is the Wii U name holding it back?

The name "Wii U" was the biggest mistake Nintendo made IMO.

Wii 2 wouldve been far more appropriate, and wouldve let people know it's actually a NEW console.

Wii U just makes it sound like it's an add-on.

As I said before, Wii U's name isn't why sales are low. The lack of high-quality games are the reason Wii U is selling poorly at the moment.

So do you think it's sales will take off when the bigger games come out?

Nope, 3DS sounds much more confusing and it's doing great. The Wii U has a serious problem and it's not the name.

I think that, in a certain way, yes. It may sound confusing for non-gamers. Nintendo should have come up with a different name or a name that would not sound too similar to "wii". Maybe something like "Super Wii" or "Wii Advance"

I understand why they decided to keep it, should of gone with just Nintendo U, as in it' all about u baby your experience, I actually just call it the U anyway, revolution would of been good, I think the wii name will be gone on nintys next system though

It depends what you mean by "take off". Will it begin to sell Wii or DS #'s? No.

I believe that 100K - 150K a Week could happen once the bigger games start releasing. Nobody knows what Nintendo is working on at the moment either. if they can create a game that shows Wii U's innovative potential, 200K or so a Week wouldn't be out of the question. It will depend on Sony & Microsoft too. At the very least I see 75K a Week once bigger games release. Not amazing but double what its doing now.

Yes, my sister asked me if I would buy her this new U controller. I think Nintendo marketing is holding it back

Nintendo U or Nintendo HD or Wii HD would have been great. But I'm not a pretentious 5th grader that cares about the cover of a book.

I don't know why someone would get confused over the name. Wii 2 is just as "bad."
