PS+ full game trials are the only things that traditionally expire. With those you download the whole game and then have an hour per PS+ account to play. At the end of the time period if you decide to buy the game you can continue with the same save data and any trophies you earned during the first hour are added to your profile.
Game demos don't have any such limits, but of course they have no trophies.
I'm not sure if as a publisher I'd prefer limiting it like on the 3DS or not. On one hand the limitation stops people from just playing the demo instead of buying the game. I can think of countless demos that I loved and played regularly that were so good I felt no need for the game. Those are certainly lost sales. On the other hand at its core a demo is an advertisement. It seems ridiculous to limit views on a film trailer and this goes in the same boat.
A demo needs to wet the player's appetite, not fulfill it. If it's done through gimping the demo features or limiting the playtime, I don't see a problem.
