Forums - Microsoft - Square's Ian Livingstone talks next-gen; hints at always-on, used game-blocking Xbox

If these rumours are so prevalent that MS's own devs believe them, MS needs to come out and deny them. They are extremely damaging in light of confirmation that PS4 will not. We are far past the 'we do not comment...' stage of PR.

The fact they have not done this increases the likelihood they are true.

How can they comment something not even exist?

Not buying a NextBox is a good choice anyway.

Why? Because MS is evil and the other ones are "the good ones"?

Don't care; never buy used. Too risky.

Ive bought plenty of used games from retailers such as Game (UK) and they're always in great condition, you honestly cant tell the difference between it and new one. In what way is it risky?

I bought a used Madden NFL game back in 2006 for PS2; wouldn't even play the disc. Never again. Not worth the hassle of returning and replacing with another potentially bad disc. Just because you've been fortunate doesn't mean there isn't a risk. My time is invaluable to me, so the potential for flaw is too great.

Why would I care about that?

Aren't you more about business?

Yea, but why would I CARE? I'll talk about it but I don't really care. I'm not emotionally invested in companies.

Ugh, should I use a word you can't twist and look crass about? I'm not talking about emotionally invested so you can act all calm collected, high and mighty.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Not buying the next Xbox if these blocked used games rumors are true.

Totally agree. I think it would be a huge slap in the face to consumers, and a terrible business decision.

This will put peoples jobs at risks as well as stores not selling the 720.

The real questions are these.

Can used game stores survive if just one console leaves that type of market? I mean Microsoft ammounts for a ton of GameStop sales I would imagine both new and used. Much more than Sony and Nintendo. If Microsoft gets rid of used games and in turn GameStop drops Microsoft would GameStop be able to stay in buisness? Nintendo only sells when their first party stuff hits so for 90 percent of the year GameStop would be living off of Sony sales both new and used with a small amount coming from Nintendo.

Point: The reason for the Nintendo thing is because Nintendo hardly ever doesn't drops the prices of their 1st party games. In turn GameStop gets to sell those 1st party titles at around 55 dollars used and people don't buy them often.

Just out of curiosity, did you buy it used from a retail store like gamestop/game or did you buy it online e.g. ebay? Pre-owned games are normally checked thoroughly before their put back on sale to ensure they work correctly if their from retail stores.

Gamestop. I'm sure they checked it and it ran at the time, but it certainly didn't run when they sold it to me.

Could have also been a problem with your ps2 laser, i had to open up my ps2 a couple of times to clean the laser because i bought it at launch and it kept getting dirty over time and started to become picky about which games it ran (if at all). This gen i've probably borrowed about 20 used games from friends (sharing is caring) or brought them and all have worked perfect just like knew.
