Forums - Nintendo - My respect for Nintendo as a publisher, and why I believe that Sony & Microsoft wish they were a little more like them.

While gamers love to wage war against each other as to who has the better system, the companies that make these systems have a different war to fight. While companies try to provide a product or service that their user base wants, in the end, it all comes down to being profitable. Of the big three video game system manufactures left, one has shown time and time again that they have what it takes to remain the king of video games. While Sony & Microsoft have their hands in a little bit of everything, Nintendo has stayed very focused on what they know and love. I think that the chart below of the top 50 selling video games of all time tells a lot about which company is truly committed to video games.

I've owed pretty much every system ever released in the USA and many that weren't. All of the systems have had great games and all have had their share of losers. As a publisher though, no one can compare to Nintendo. Their hit to miss ratio is simply in a league of it's own. If you don't like Nintendo for whatever reason, that's your prerogative, but you have to respect the fact that they have kept our favorite hobby mainstream. "Hardcore" players simply are not enough to sustain the industry on their own.

Keep playing your favorite games on your favorite systems, but respect the fact that other may like different games or different systems. While I do have systems that I may like more than others as they appeal to me more, I don't hate any one system or ny one company.

This chart speaks for itself.

Stop hating and start playing.

Dem software numbers!

But it's kinda expected that a company that primarily makes video games does it better than a company where video gaming is just a side industry. ;p

No one can defeat Nintendo in the software department.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

People buy Nintendo products almost solely for their games, that's not the case for Sony and Microsoft. So yeah Nintendo does make amazing games.

People buy the systems for those games, so what can you expect. That list really are amazing :O

I'm not surprised by the list. As you said, it speaks for itself.

since tetris has more sales than the vast majority of games on that list does that mean that tetris is better than games such as super smash bros brawl, super mario 64, halo 3 etc?

edit: actually tetris has more sales than brawl AND super mario 64 combined

No, and that wasn't the point, it means it was an utter genious idea.

If we're talking about games entering the mainstream then surely we should also be looking beyond the consoles to tablets and mobiles? Don't the Angry Birds games for instance have over 1 billion downloads?

Wow. What a hater.

Hates great. Leads to the dark side.
