Normally I don't like discussing anything Sony in the Microsoft forum but I thought it would be interesting to get some impressions from Xbox fans about Sony's recent PS4 press conference. I'll go first and for anyone that thinks I'm trolling Sony please leave this discussion now and pretend everyone feels the same way about the PS4 that you do if you don't want to hear other views that are different from your own...
Ok I'll start by coming clean that I didn't watch the full conference. I actually went to a website an hour after it had started and planned on quickly skimming through the entire conference to see the good parts. Imagine my surprise to see that it was still going on and after watching a few minutes I realized that they had no clue about pacing as it should have been an hour tops.
So I'm sitting there talking to my girlfriend and doing other things and occasionally glancing at the live feed. Some thoughts from what I remember... There was a puppet moving demonstration that had me shaking my head at how ridiculous it was. If this is any indication of what Media Molecule has planned for PS4 than they're going to be in trouble after Tearaway bombs on Vita. Maybe they'll have a critical darling but Little Big Planet 2 will look like a monster hit compared to it.
I also watched the Killzone demo which to be honest looked boring as f*ck. I was surprised at how underwhelmed I was since they're one of the few developers at Sony that could actually show off the PS4. I was expecting some kind of epic battle where thousands of the enemy were onscreen or something but it looked like the same old shit that I've seen in many FPS games before.
Even the RPG demo which would normally interest me looked pretty damn lame since I got the impression that Capcom was insulting my intelligence by putting a fake HUD on the screen and trying to pass off a target render or whatever it was as real gameplay. Of course I could be wrong but I really doubt it.
As for the hardware the controller was very disappointing since they kept the same basic design which needs a serious upgrade and just added a touchscreen. To be honest the system just feels like the Vita all over again with them adding a touchscreen, increasing the specs, and calling it a day. There was literally nothing I saw that I was interested in since I wouldn't want to spec other people's games for example (who prefers to watch a friend's game rather than to play co-op with them?). Also why would you want someone else to play your game for you?
Of course Sony mentioning the 8gigs surprised me. I guess they really are trying to go out of their way to give Nintendo and Microsoft a major price advantage and make it more difficult to get a lot of systems out there. Imagine a $99 Xbox 720 with a 3 year contract against a $429 PS4 because that's the kind of position Sony could find itself in. They really haven't learned anything as to how important appealing to the masses over just appealing to core fanboys really is.
Anyways those are just a few of my impressions, feel free to share you own.
