400 to 500 would be reasonable.

That PC someone built is ridiculous. You can't even buy 8GB of GDDR5....so they're using DDR3...this PC is more comparable to the next XBox than to the PS4.

Oh and they also left out the OS and power supply...keyboard/mouse...etc.

you may just want to explain it to me. if there's an update, then it got more complicated.

I certainly hope not. I think we’re very proud of what we delivered with the PlayStation 3 in terms of technology, and that we were able to enhance the features while still reducing the price to $249. I chose $499, as I like to go worse case scenario.  If that's not the worst case scenario though ... oh boy ...

$400 in just parts for the system isn't good news. Because then there'll be the controller, charging cable, headset?, HDMI cable, manufacturing cost, and shipping cost.

$399 would mean they are losing some real money on each sold. $499 could even be possible.

Say it cost's $400 in parts, even if they sell it for $400 they'll take a big loss. For an example Flanner went on to say that th 3ds took a loss from $100 worth of parts even though the cost of the console was neary double at $170. Imagine the ps4! Let's drop the price to $350, they're buying in bulk after all. They could sell the console for maybe even $499 and take a small loss because of costs such as production, that announcement show everyone just enjoyed, shipping etc. Sony just can't afford a big loss right now. I can't see the console being anywhere near the three hundred anything range.
