they really don't give  single console ownersa choice, its like taking a honda over a ferrari, sure you get mario and zelda which are great but you miss out on the nextgen experiance, sony excusives and amazing third party games.

Frankly, Zelda/3D Mario/Xenoblade 2/etc at 2GB of RAM is the preferable choice to me.

I don't see PS4 as any more next gen than Wii U. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a very promising system, but the choice isn't as one-way as you describe.

Many developers don't think it is next gen and that matters to the consumers. From it's poor sales I am guessing that the majority of consumers don't think it's next-gen either... or maybe that it's not worth getting.

As for choices, yes, I believe it is that simple. You yourself admit to it. You want to play Zelda. Mario etc., Wii u is for you.

If you want all the third party blockbusters, wii u is not for you.  If you want both Mario and third party big hitters like GTA then you need two consoles. It really is that simple.


By your logic the vita is not a next gen handheld. 

next gen could mean what ever you want it to be, for me it's about power, it's a jump in technology, that's what ps4 is to me, its nextgen.

I didn't say it wasn't a simple choice, I said it wasn't as one-way as ninjablade suggested. He was saying there was no reason someone would choose Wii U over PS4. I'm saying there s.

The PS4 seems like a sound business venture, it integrates and expands upon existing comcepts of connectivity and social gaming. For me though, it seems like something of a nightmare, I hate playing games online save for two exceptions (simply because they're awesome extremely well balanced), I don't need to share and connect everything I do (I realise that I don't have to share anything though) and enjoy single player experiences, I also hate playing on handhelds and small screens.

All in all, the PS4 seems like its aimed at the twitter/instagram crowd, which is very clever but its not me, not at all. I know that I don't have to connect or am going to be forced online or to share or anything but all this seemed to be the main focus of the console, most development and effort will have this in mind, just like most development in the 7th has focused on explosions, gimmicks and shallow gloss.

Will I buy a PS4? Probably, in time, but there was nothing in that reveal that made me want to run out and get one at launch, or any time soon after. It was, as expected, more about social/online/sharing gaming, floating on the currents in the market but not on my wishlist.

Console specs =/= PC specs. 8GB GDDR5 on a console can push much more than 8GB GDDR5 on a PC.


Because of optimizing, its not because RAM becomes magical when its stuck inside a console casing. Besides, I can just up my RAM to 32 or even 64GB with my current setup should I wish to.

I think my point is; 8GB or RAM, yay! How does that help me when they're only announcing shooters, Diablo 3 (dear lord) and show tech demo's from last year (Squeenix)? Its kind of like Crytek, they know how to make a game gorgeous but they don't know how to make a game. And that racing game, online slush with pretty visuals and horrible physics. Online Arcade racing, hooray! The only thing I'm looking forward to with the PS4 is the next Gran Turismo.

Oh now I understand. You don't care.

i really didn't expect that! but considering all the extra stuff running in the backround it was maybe necessary and 4gb would have been way too less. something we really don't want to see a second time is ram as bottleneck.

Yes and unneccessary. Although it sounds really nice and it is an enthusiast's dream, the price will be unnecessarily inflated with not that big of a jump in performance since the GPU and CPU are frankly just average.

And your magical PC will run the game EXACTLY the same. Because the game is written with 32bit code and uses the 2G of your ram it is allowed to use. The rest of your 64G ram will be used to heat up your room (which is cool in winter when it is cold).

Also i am hoping for a memory expansion slot. The memory will cost nothing in 3 years time making for a very cheap upgrade.


I could emulate N64 games with my on-board graphics as well as play Angry Birds thank you very much. I actually installed a graphics card and power supply a few weeks ago though :)

Yeah it looked really good and sounded real impressive. A feature people seem to be skimming over is theability to play a game from where you are instantly after booting it up. Very nifty.

But it's all adds up in the price...
