Today my professor was speaking about growth in products and mentioned the Wii was in it's peak. I wanted to facepalm so hard.

A couple of months ago my friends were talking about the PS4 and how it looked like a computer and I was such an ignorant human being for not knowing about it. (WTF!)

People tend to speak about things that don't exist or have yet to be announced and I just go along with them.

And don't get me started on Mario on PlayStation. >_>

So how often do you have to witness these events? Do you have a funny story to share with us?

Why didn't you raise your hand and question the professor? If you have a disagreement about an issue that is being discussed in class then you might as well raise question to it. At least it shows that you are paying attention and others might be questioning the same thing.  Teachers like good questions or input.  Just don't do it all the time then others will be annoyed.

When people want to play Mario on a non-Nintendo console.

When people consider COD the best shooter.

I never mention videogames in real life... how did you guys even found a gf?

This just happens because the GP (general public aka the average people outside our windows) don't see a good 70% of what we read and watch about video games/technology therefore, we're going to end up in conversations like the OP's, very often. It's whatever. Just leaves more gaming news + knowledge for me. 

Wii Sports (Bowling) got me laid.

On my first date with my now fiancee we actually went to an arcade after dinner where she crushed me in Dance Dance Revolution.  Women who play games do exist, and they are awesome.

On the topic at hand I work with older people and they tend to ask me about games for their children or grand children and it is amusing when I have to answer questions.

My personal favorite was an elderly woman wanting to make sure her grand son could not kill prostitutes in the video game he wanted for Christmas as she had heard about that on the news. I assured her he could not, because it was a basketball simulator, (although the image did make me laugh).

That depends on the professor.  Some HATE to be corrected.  In one of my classes last year, I realized that our certification textbook was going to go out of date during the middle of that term, as new standards were scheduled to be put into place.  I could tell he was annoyed by it and he very much down-played it to the rest of the class, even though it was actually a significant difference.

As for the OP, this being the United States, I hear a lot of people who seem to mistake US sales for worldwide sales and honestly believe that the 360 is absolutely destroying everything else.  They also extrapolate "everyone I know has a 360" into "everyone in the world has a 360".
