I was in GAME and a woman asked if they had "that Mario game for the Wii". The face of the store clerk was priceless. She named all the Mario games for the Wii she remembered, but none of them was the one the woman was looking for.
That woman probably has never played a videogame in her life, but when you're going to buy something you have to know the name of the product you want to buy!

That's what I was waiting for. Then my hopes began to crumble. And then, they shattered. Two hours and a half later, I don't want to tell you everything I forced myself to hear. I will summarize it. This guy (the old one) came and said something like "L.A Noire drew inspiration of L.A Confidential. That's where the name comes from." Basically, L.A Noire was the most successful attempt in videogaming narratives to achieve Hollywood style. Because, you see, according to this man, videogames narrative does nothing except copy-cating cinema. "It is its role model", he said. "Videogames want to achieve the quality born in movies". He kept using the goddamn L.A Noire to explain himself. You know what's funny? When asked, he admited that he had never ever play videogames previously, yet he "made a huge research about gaming narrative". At that point, I was not sure if it was about narrative. But heck, he went on. Probably the most insulting thing he did was, when asked about past games of previous decades and ages, he sentenced that "when gaming started years ago, it was nothing more than a group of freaks in a basement, trying to cash money from a banal entertainment. No narrative. No identity. It was not until L.A Noire that videogames have found its place". I'll never understand why didn't I just leave the place. I thought he would say "just kiddin'" at some point. But no. You get the point. |

Like I said I'm not referring to sales. People can pirate all the music they want and that doesn't make them less ignorance about the subject. The same thing happens to gamers who pirate games.
My schoolmates know "everything" about Lady Gaga (and other mainstream music and movie actors) because info on her in thrown at our face almost everyday. Can't say the same thing about Link, Nathan Drake or Master Chief.

lol, did you ever get customers arguing with you about the wii HDMI? I haven't worked at best buy in three years, but I had like three or four arguments with customers over whether or not the wii had an HDMI port. I had one guy who came in looking for a 'wii HDMI cable' and I told him the wii didn't have an hdmi port, but it had av connectors. He got really mad and told me he just barely looked at his wii and it had an HDMI port, and I told him he must have been mistaken.
The guy got mad and wanted to talk to my manager. My manager helped him find an HDMI cable and he bought it. I sure hope he enjoyed not being able to use it

I had a good friend telling me he had seen and played on PS3 about 1 or 2 years before it came out.At the moment I was lost for my words but somehow I was able to get him to its senses.

Yeah, i was there during all the last gen console launches. The wii always being out of stock was so annoying. It seemed like 9 out of 10 questions i was asked was whether we had any wiis, followed immediately after with when we expected to get more. I remember we actually added wii availability or lack thereof to the recorded message people got when they called in, before they started doing store operators (terrible idea btw).

In the case of radio is because people do not see the need of listening to radio anymore, with the popularity of iphones, most people just listen to their favorite music on the go (no need to wait for the song you want to listen to come on the radio). Not sure why the Grammy is on decline.
Mario (with some of the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom) is the ONLY video game character that's famous and everybody knows. But that's pretty much it, most people (outside of gamers) don't really know about specific gaming characters.
Like I already said, everyone at least knows who Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and all this other mainstream "musicians" are, but not everyone have even heard about Samus, Kratos or Commander Shepard.
