Forums - Sony - All Signs pointing to FF Versus XIII and The Last Guardian ReReveals at PS Meeting 2/20!!!

Do you think they will Show at PS Meeting 2/20?

The Last Guardian will, n... 52 30.77%

FF Versus XIII for sure, ... 9 5.33%

Both Megatons will Drop 45 26.63%

Keep Dreaming kids, Neither. 63 37.28%

Total:169

Honestly at this point I think releasing FFvXIII and/or TLG for the PS3 will affect PS4 sales negatively. If rumors are true and the PS4 will be revealed this week, then announcing a release date for those two games will easily steal a lot of the PS4's thunder. I personally believe both titles will and should be for the PS4, although I'm really sick of waiting.

One can dream I would love to see Final Fantasy Versus XIII shown during Sony's press conference.

as i said. TLG being Sony's IP they have more of a reason to disregard game sales and use it to push consoles, as the PS4's killer app.

Square releasing the game on the PS4 would mean waiting for a year at least, for the user base to build up. UNLESS they have come to some agreement with Sony

One thing people have ingored is that FF XIV a realm reborn is almost a certain PS4 title.

Am I missing your point? As it sounds like you think CC and Versus will be bad from what we know of it so far.

I'm not disagreeing it's just that people as part of their usual moaning always talk about how japanese RPGs should return to the good old days.

Versus is new and I think it's part of the reason they teased it so early, to get people's reactions on something so radically different.

Here's what I believe: had the game we know as Versus been release in 2010 as XIII, an action-rpg with a guy lots called emo back in 2006 (yeah i remember) today the moaning would be exactly the same but it would be for the other XIII with the pink haired chick.

The grass is always greener on the other side for self proclaimed Final Fantasy fans and there are as many sides as there are sequels.

I distinctly remember polls had Versus being the more popular of the two long before FFXIII actually released.

I do agree tho, fans should make up their mind. So many scream they want "Traditional Turn Based" yet when those types of games release like WKC they swear it was something foreign to them and say things like it moves too slow(when in fact WKC was just a turn based JRPG where the characters did not stay stationary and the ATB-like bar moved much faster than they would normally in that type of game). This is why SE has actively been persuing the mix of both (FFXII's combat is the definition of this, and FFXIII is more so leaning TB but still actiony). What is really means is that it is impossible to please both sides, so the hybrids SE has actually come up with are probably better suited for the series. (I actually like FFXIII's battle system, just wish it wasn't so restrictive with things like switching team members, really loved FFXII and think that was the best battle set up in the series).

There is solace in the idea that Action RPGs are on the rise right now, so Versus being closer to that makes it more appealing to most, not to mention the devoid of cotton candy color schemes and darker storytelling which is the opposite of FFXIII. THIS is what fans really wanted in their FF games I think.

What signs are pointing to a Versus re-reveal?

The Last Guardian I can see, given that that former BigBig Studios dev on gaf was saying it's been an Orbis project for something like two years now.

Wasn't that only possible because the GC was similar in architecture to Wii? Hard to believe that they could develop it for both when PS4 allegedly doesn't have a cell processor.

Luminous Engine is built for Multiplatform releases, if the game has been moved to that engine like the rumors say than it won't be a problem, at least no more than porting anything would be. The outer frame work will be there and they will tweak and adjust accordingly. I think as long as the high end stuff can be done, which the PS4 will obviously be more powerful than PS3, than we are safe I think.  Sony is now making a habit of building their hardware to be easily ported to. It is possible to port a full game to Vita in just 3months with minimal cost.

Multiplatform engine doesn't automatically mean scalable. I wouldn't want to see a simple "HD" version of Versus on the PS4.

And im still bothered by what you said in the opening "...ongoing joke amongst gamers as the ultimate troll bate/vaperware games ever to exist."

You are talking about gamers who are the worst of us !

FFXIII-2 sold less than half of FFXIII which was already under target.

FF XIII exceeded sales expectations. And XIII-2 sold pretty well for a spin off.

FFXIII "exceeding sales expectations" the same as Sony saying the Vita sales were "Right at expectations" if you catch my drift.

  • FFVII was first gen PS1 release, moved from one console to the next etc. 11+million and still going.
  • FFX first gen PS2, sold 8million
  • FFX-2 sold 5.5million as a spin off
  • FFXII sold  5.9mill
in comparison...
  • FFXIII sold 6 million across 2 platforms and a marketing campaign as big if not bigger than the one they had for FFVII. The game also was originally slated for PS2 release, scrapped, then redone for PS3, then mysteriously dissappeared for years, then went into Multiplat development. Assuredly, this was the most expensive title they ever made.
  • FFXIII-2 sold 3million across 2 platforms but is most likely using a heavy amount of borrowed assets from FFXIII so at least it might be some sort of profitable. Also note that this game dropped to like $40 just a few months after release so that skews it a bit.
  • FFXIII Lightning Returns is at most going to sell 2million

Well I will not claim to be a complete expert when it comes to that kind of technical stuff. I admittedly have a limited understanding of it all.

I was not saying everyone is like that but quite a few have become very cynical of the game anytime it is brought up. Take a look at Neogaf's thread about the fragrance and see how the whole thing becomes one big "Vaporware" pun.

Just cause the engine is scalable doesn't mean that the same game can be released on the PS4 without a little work. An HD port-style maybe.

But simul? Doubt it. At least it's coming
