Multiplatform engine doesn't automatically mean scalable. I wouldn't want to see a simple "HD" version of Versus on the PS4.
And im still bothered by what you said in the opening "...ongoing joke amongst gamers as the ultimate troll bate/vaperware games ever to exist."
