*facepalm* there are downers because the article was stupid. Like I said in the post you side-stepped, it's nearly impossible for the Vita to come out on top.

Again..who cares? At this moment its about breathing life into the Vita. Once they get to profitability they can get back in the game and go after Nintendo.

Your logic is circular and it's sad.

Per the article, as quoted in the 1st post after OP by Soriku.......

"Wow. Just wow. If there is any justice in this industry Sony is going to perform a complete 180 degree turn on the Vita and come out so competitive, if not outright on top."

Nice joke article lol.

I'm out.

Why all the downers? There was a poll in Japan recently where 68% said they want to buy a Vita this year. That alone was good news. This announcement of a price reduction and new games is just what the doctor ordered for more sales in Japan, so why are you not agreeing with this op?

Do you expect the 3DS to stop selling? It's nearly impossible for the Vita to come out on top at this point...

outside of japan it pretty much has..

..not that that is relavent to above.

I will be happy with 7 million. I will be extatic if it sells 10 million. 3DS I expect to be around 20 million with Pokemon during the holidays easily doing what Vita does for the year.

Get Your Portable ID!Lord of Ratchet and Clank

Duke of Playstation Plus

Warden of Platformers

That is...optimistic.

Given how loaded Nintendo's line up is in 2013 I don't see this year see much of a shift in power.

My logic isnt circular, I've been saying the same thing. As for the reading portion, I read the article  and this is the most important key part to Sonys success with the PSP Vita:
"It seems the company has finally realised that the Japan market is critical for a handheld platform. Even the Nintendo 3DS, which many people are happy to say is a very robust business now, is only outperforming in Japan. Elsewhere sales are still deflated. Until now Sony has been so focused on the western market that it has largely ignored the Japanese market, but this year is going to change things around completely."

If they stop ignoring the Japanese and treat the Vita well by supporting the Japanese they will reward them with sales. They don't want western made titles and to tell you the truth most who play handhelds dont. This is also why they've had issues selling the PS3 in Japan as well. If they could focus on Japan and the rest of the world simultaneously they would be lethal.

I took the time to actually read the article.

"In the video Sony showcased multiple JRPGs - from the niche (Atelier Meruru)"

There wasn't an Atelier game at the event shown.

"There's the port of the popular Dead or Alive 5, an online RPG in a new Phantasy Star game."

What the hell does this mean lol. DoA5 is a port but it's also a new online RPG in the Phantasy Star series at the same time?

Notice the comma which signifies the next in a sequential list.  You'd be right if there was no comma.

Why you would think Vita has to outsell 3DS in order to be successful is beyond me....

PSP sold 70million units. It may have been 1/2 to 1/3rd of DS's sold but it was a really good number. The PSP remained profitable for majority of its time selling, and is the only handheld to come out alive from going toe to toe with Nintendo's pedigreed handheld series.

Vita just needs to be profitable for Sony, that is all they care about right now, as they should. Yes, the number of units sold will affect 3rd party support. Still doesn't mean it has to sell 3DS numbers just to get them.

If you can admit that there's a reason for the downers and my reason was correct (and that "who cares" was incorrect), I can go along and say, I agree with you that the key to the Vita's success is Japan.
