Forums - General - Your biggest disappointments of this gen

Over-saturation of first person shooters.

Decline of jRPGs

Emphasis on gimmicky control input innovations that promised more than delivered instead of focus on game content.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

It's kind of depressing that it's so much easier to answer this question than the other, more positive one.

Digital rights management
Microtransactions
Downloadable content
Achievements/trophies
Unfinished, buggy games rushed to market (hardly unique to this generation, but it's a problem nevertheless)
"Persistent online authentication"
Focus on online mutiplayer at the expense of local multiplayer
Loss of great and near-great studios
The influence of Hollywood on game design
Fans' blind loyalty to their company of choice and their hatred of "the other" (again, not unique to this gen, but never worse than it is now)

Thanks for saving me a lot of time

The total lack of innovation that lasted for so long with the FPS fad thats going on.
And L.A Noire, was really hyped about that game but was so boring and felt like a chore to play it.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

- Sony first part up until 2009 (since then the bast they have ever done)
- GTA4 (what a load of rubbish
- buying a 360 at launch
- buying a Wii and only keeping it for 2 days
- Twisted Metal online
- buying cod game.

I'm feeling rather satisfied with this generation, the only thing I can come up with is a lack of good, new jrpg games.

Skyward Sword. Metroid: Other M is probably the runner up.
