Forums - Gaming - “Skyrim was generic” says Witcher 3 game Director

Skyrim is generic with boring characters, uninteresting story and dull combat...Oh and it's overrated as hell.

Around the Network

I agree the story and quests could have been a bit stronger.. in fact unless you stick directly to the main questline in the game you'll quickly forget what exactly is going on and what your main goals are. Didn't care though because I easily sunk over 150 hours in the game and did many of the sidequests. Yeah alot of them were repetitive but the feeling of discovery and adventure in that game is second to none. I also loved Fallout 3 and NV which is probably why I enjoyed Skyrim so much. I wonder if this guy thinks that Fallout is just a generic post-apocalyptic game as well.

Characters I remembered off the top of my head:
Alduin
Paarthunax (sp?)
Ullfric Stormcloak
Lyda because she's always at my f'ing house
Jarl Balgruf of White Run
The Grey Manes
Delphine

Again, this is because you spend so much time away from the main storyline in the game, and alot of the characters you meet in the game are just one-off meetings. But to say the game is generic just makes you look like an ass. And the guy says that NPCs don't acknowledge your progress in the game, which is complete bull because they will refer to events as they happen around the towns, like when you slay a dragon, or after you complete the sidequest at the college of Winterhold for example. They will also comment on your character attributes and choices of weapons.

If you're going to criticize the game, at least know what you're talking about.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Well Skyrim was generic.
Think about how different Morrowind was, and think how dull Skyrim was in comparison. The only people who will argue are those who have not played Morrowind and old rpgs at their time of release.

Morrowind was truly amazing and unforgiven.  Even rats could kill you.

I spent a month trying to defeat that guy in the bridge very early in the game.

You have a chance of talking about your game and their accomplishments on an interview and all you do is bash a much more commercially successfull game. Just great.

Exactly - guy spent most of the interview bashing Skyrim instead of talking what they're gonna do with their game to make it great open-world experience.

What I find equally funny/sad is lot of people here not even watching the interview, or undestanding what this news is really about, but making it about Skyrim by bashing it additionaly. Now, for the record, I don't even like Skyrim (imo, really nasty downgrade from Morrowind), but that's not the point of all this - you don't have a luxury of common forum poster to go around and bash competing product if you're developer who is about to enter same playing field (in this case, open world RPG) - it's just really bad publicity, and you alienate fans of that product who might be willing to try yours too.

THANK YOU. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.
