Congrats, 3DS.

*Laughs at all the doom threads/articles*

yeh so many doom threads! and what about all the investors suggesting they port their games on apple products and shit.

Well, it's a cycle. New Console = Doomed Console.

It may look fine now, but once it starts doing negative sales it's right back to the coffin.

Negative sales? Are you tellin' me that people will start hating it so much that the shipped units just start blowing up? :-O

3DS is a huge powerhouse beast. Sorry, it had to be said.

It's a joke how everyone doomed this console when it first came out. Honestly it's the successor to the DS, the most successful console ever. Of course people were gonna buy once it got some good games. And it still doesn't have a real Pokemon or Zelda. Only spinoffs/remakes. I'd say the sells will be about 100 Million when's it's through.

I'd say the ps2 was the most successful console ever...

But anyways, impressive feat by Nintendo turning it around. Sony could learn a few things from this.

According to Wikipedia, the DS tops the PS2.

Yes, I know DS has sold more than the PS2. But the PS2 sold like, what, two times more games than the DS? Something like that.

Nintendo really kicked the 3DS into high gear in Japan, and they did it partially by killing off the DS. It's really hard to find a new DS or DSi variant in Japanese stores anymore, although it's not hard to find a used one at a game shop. It also helps that there's virtually no more regular DS software being released in Japan. The last major one was Pokemon Black/White 2 I recall. I wonder if the same strategy would have worked for Sony's Vita if they cut down the PSP business.

Overseas sales are still not great though, and were one of the reasons Nintendo cited for posting losses in previous periods. They look to be improving though. It might be time to cut off the regular DS worldwide.
