Won't happen any time soon. I don't think Iwata would be able to convince anyone to talk another half a billion dollar loss to get the console off the ground, which would be higher in Wii-U's case because they are already selling it at a smaller profit (if there is indeed any profit on the hardware) than the 3DS.
So they're going to go the Vita route, and just sit out the bad sales until the software comes and hope that provides it with a boost. Obviously, that's worked horrifically for Vita where we've gotten to the point where it's questionable whether the console is going to survive in any state much longer.
For Wii-U, though, it's doable. The right combination of Nintendo-developed software, which does appear to be coming (could be stronger, but is definitely on the right lines) added to the fact that - as Sales repeatedly points out - they're the only 8th gen console on the market, means that it's not especially analogous with Vita.
So yeah. To actually answer the question in the OP - in actuality, I will probably buy Wii-U after a price cut. But I'm not waiting to buy one at the moment and I wouldn't expect to see one in the foreseeable future.

WHO IS JESUS REALLY?
