Forums - Gaming - What's the point of backwards compatibility? (looking at interests involved, not benefits)...

It's all about the initial software drought. All systems have a bunch of launch titles and then a fair amount of time till the next good game comes out. By having backwards compatibility the early adopter can keep playing their new system and having fun. In return the launch can keep momentum. After a year or two however BC is pointless because the system has it's own backlog of unplayed games.

The DSi doesn't have the GBA cart slot in it.  I still have a GBA flip top so I can have it run GBA and regular Gameboy games I have.
