Umm...maybe? I'm not actually sure.
On the Handheld front, yes absolutely, games errryweereee.
Console front? No because I'm feeling the doom of dev costs.

No, absolutely not. The 7th gen has left the industry in a miserable state and I don't mean financially. Game design and philosophy has turned drastically towards the worse.
Yearly, or even quicker, game rehashes with little to no real development (aka Call of Dooty or just about any sports game)
HD and full remakes of games from the last couple generations (too soon)
The move to mini-games and phone apps
Increasingly ridiculous gimmicks (namely movement and 3D)
Shortened base games and boatloads of DLC
Sounds fantastic right?

Nope it is not.
Reasons:
1. Mandatory installs
2. Patches
3. Rumor: needing to be online
4. Rumor: no used games
5. Digital downloads.
These 5 reasons that I can think of atm put me of as how cannot see myself being able to relive classic games on these systems many years from now once the online services have gone down. This is what makes the previous gens fantastic as you can plug and play the game you played as a kid.
Essentially consoles have become PCs but without the flexibility to save these patches and dlc as backup, so may as well game on a PC with the added flexibility and better gfx and higher resolutions.

Everyone has summed it up pretty nicely. The industry, now over 40 years old, has actually regressed.
Online passes, DLC, microtransactions, achievements, unfinished games, overproduced games, etc.
But, like Mummelmann wrote, the most insidious problem is a philosophy of game design that can only be described as backward.

Patches...Are you joking? Do you not want developers to fix their games? I realize patches were unnecessary a while back because you people claim "the games were perfect" but you have to realize that video games are much bigger in scale nowadays and they pay attention to more detail. It's difficult to release a game that is glitch/bug free nowadays.

No i am not joking. I would have no problem with patches if I could back them up easily locally like I can on PC. Until that happens patching games on consoles should not be required to finish a game (minor bugs are acceptable). Game breaking bugs should be found before release.
My problem is this, 10 years from now I decide to turn my PS3 on, FUCK ME it is dead, so I purchase a used one on eBay. I try to play skyrim. BUT the game is unplayable after a certain point for me without patches. I want to patch it but when I try the online serivce has been shut down for years. Then I am screwed. I just got a useless game on my hands.
Alternatively I might have uninstalled the game to play other games because I ran out of space.
