Nope it is not.

Reasons:
1. Mandatory installs
2. Patches
3. Rumor: needing to be online
4. Rumor: no used games
5. Digital downloads.

These 5 reasons that I can think of atm put me of as how cannot see myself being able to relive classic games on these systems many years from now once the online services have gone down. This is what makes the previous gens fantastic as you can plug and play the game you played as a kid.

Essentially consoles have become PCs but without the flexibility to save these patches and dlc as backup, so may as well game on a PC with the added flexibility and better gfx and higher resolutions.

Patches...Are you joking? Do you not want developers to fix their games? I realize patches were unnecessary a while back because you people claim "the games were perfect" but you have to realize that video games are much bigger in scale nowadays and they pay attention to more detail.

No i am not joking. I would have no problem with patches if I could back them up easily locally like I can on PC. Until that happens patching games on consoles should not be required to finish a game (minor bugs are acceptable). Game breaking bugs should be found before release.

My problem is this, 10 years from now I decide to turn my PS3 on, FUCK ME it is dead, so I purchase a used one on eBay. I try to play skyrim. BUT the game is unplayable after a certain point for me without patches. I want to patch it but when I try the online serivce has been shut down for years. Then I am screwed. I just got a useless game on my hands.

Alternatively I might have uninstalled the game to play other games because I ran out of space.
