well I wouldn't just an example. I know people who only own PS3s so they are screwed lol. Hence why I think if we going to go down this patching path for console games, they should be easy to backup.

No, I like gaming on a huge screen with surround sound. Games moving to tablets and phones is not for me. The huge blockbusters will still be there (with all the annoyances already mentioned), but all the innovative middle of the road games are hurting and/or leaving for different formats.

no. tablets, touch screens, call of duty, very few games offer split screen coop, developer problems, publishers disrespecting gamers(CapcomBethesda), and society in general is hurting the industry. people rather spend $300+ on a cell phone when 5 years ago they would be spending it on games.

No it's not.

First, games are being simplified too much expand the market. This has been affecting the FPS and the RTS genres the most.

Second, companies are in general investing less in graphics while charging us the same for the games or more.

And third, there are so many good games out there but just a few get a piece of the cake.

However the indie scene is growing and that is beautiful.

edit: oh and I forgot DRM and day 1 DLC.

Others have mentioned a few things that I definitely agree with. I just want to point out that the talk of moving from a GAME based console to an APP/ "Media hub" console is ridiculous. With all the talks of "taking over the living room" it sounds like things next gen will be Apps/otheruselesscrap first and the games second. Games should always be the biggest focus :/
