Forums - General - Have you been put to sleep by anesthesia?

I always found this concept interesting. I have never had any surgery in my 21 years of living, but I've heard of others having anesthesia. While I do understand the science behind it, I've always wondered about the experience and how you feel when you are about to go to sleep.

So if anyone has been put to sleep for surgery or something else, share your experience of what you felt when being put to sleep artificially. Did you just instantly go to sleep? How did you lose your conciousness out of nowhere? Did you try to force yourself to keep awake? How did the whole experience go when you woke up? Share.

They started the anesthesia drip, then I started talking about Breaking Bad season 4. I think I said all of "Season 4 is going to be so awe..."

Next thing I know I wake up and I'm in recovery.

it just feels like when you are watching tv really late and you just fall asleep. The type where you don't remember exactly what time you passed out.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I've had anesthesia once for tonsil surgery.

My story is pretty much like Pezus'. They put a mask sort of thing over your mouth and then they say to breathe naturally while counting down to 10, you never get to 10 though.

When I woke up I had about a minute of confusion and then I noticed where I was and how bad my throat hurt.

You can't really remember it.

Your long-term memory won't carry all the way to the very point of drifting to sleep, that's why you can try count to 10 or whatever and you'll only remember up to a certain number where in fact you count further than that And then after you wake up as usual, but very confused, often shaking like someone with severe hypothermia... man it sucks big time.

Yeh I had the gas. Same as Pezus, I was told to count down from 10, next thing I know I wake up all done in the hospital bed. Anesthesia is Magic!

one time... i was 6, so it was more than 25 years ago, but i do remember. after the shoot, all i did was looking to the bright light in the celling and at the surgery tools, after that my eyes just shut. its not like feel asleep, because that you see it coming, its so fast that you can't think or feel much about it.

My story is similar. NiKKoM asked me to smell a cloth and the next thing I knew I was noticing that I was lying in a dumpster and how bad my ass hurt.

This actually makes a lot of sense to me. I feel like I can relate to this having not taken anesthesia before. I know people say they just fall asleep straight off, but thats really hard for me to understand because I haven't felt it. Its once of those things you have to do to understand.

I have had nights though where I feel asleep playing some game or watching a video and I couldn't tell when exactly I feel asleep. In fact I broke my laptop once because I feel asleep while watching some anime in my bed. Then I must have moved in my sleep and my laptop fell and the screen frame came off :(

You can never trust that man!

I had it used for having my wisdom teeth removed. The doctor asked me if it was working yet. I said no. The next thing I remember is waking up. It works quickly and I didn't even notice it.
