My observations:

  • The touch area doesn't look like a screen at all, but merely a touch area, like the back of the PSV.
  • Looks like there are select/start buttons at the top left/right of the touch area.
  • It could end up being slimmer with the final version. But I could live with this size, at least its not xbox huge.
  • I like that they might use the PSV d-pad, which is the best ive used yet.
  • The analog sticks look like they would appease those who complain about the DS3 sticks, but I suspect they will go back to the same style we got with the DS3 and PSV analog sticks
  • We can't see the L2/R2 so we have no clue if they've been removed, I suspect they are there.
  • The speaker/mic would be a good possible addition, it won't change the need for a headset.

Don't forget what looks to be a headphone jack at the bottom

Good observation!

Yeah, that could be a headphone jack. Actually pretty clever. This way you won't have any problems with the length of your headphone cables. Could also be used for seperate sound in splitscreen. Very nice^^

great job Sony!

Ridiculous. Who are you accusing Sony of copying now?

This controller concept is unlike anything on the Wii, Wii U or Xbox 360.

lol why are people accusing me of thinking that they copied somebody?

are you guys that upset or something?

they didn't copy Nintendo I just don't think the innovation of a touch pad is innovation at all. will it work like a laptop or something?

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Facepalm at some posters here. It's a prototype, nothing more. It will look like a proper Sony product when they show it off on the 20th.

I don't quite get the track pad, while it could be cool, and useful for OS functions I see it being very limited for game use. Unless of course that track pad is more like hand tracking the the typical track pad. http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/25/leap-motion-gesture-control-technology-hands-on/ follow the link to see what i mean. Now if its the same deal. Holly fuck!

The speakers are a welcomed change and the sticks look funny a first glance, but if you noticed its like a hybrid stick, it's still a convect stick like the DS3 which will keep that prices movement found with a ds3 controller the the ring at the bottom will keep your thumbs in place. Love it.

Really getting excited to see the final product 6 more days!

You know what, will a little polish this could be a good controller. It looks like the square button at the top right of the D-pad has a matching one on the other side. Those are probably the start and select. The LED could be for camera tracking, avoiding the need for the Move balls but it looks like it won't disconnect into two allow for individual hand movements. (cool but I don't know if it translates properly in gameplay). This seems practical and an upgrade in design in D-pad, analogs, and most likely triggers. The touchpad will be excellent for navigation. All Sony needs to do is work on visual design and this is going to be pretty solid.

Neither is adding buttons to an iPad.

My only problem is that it will drive up the cost of the console like the Controller Tablet does for the Wii U it alone costs about 170$.

No it won't, at least not by much.
Wii U pad costs nowhere near $170 btw

If you want to buy a gamepad alone it will retail at 175$ so far its only be available at retail in japan.

It won't actually cost that much to make. That's pure profit.

But that's how much a consumer pays for it and thats what we are so im right when i say that it costs about 170$.

Ok, point me to a store selling this controller for that much, then I'll believe you.

This is a controlled leak!

Sony has been testing many different designs for the controller and this is one that didn't make the cut. Most of the reactions to this are negative and that's what Sony wants. On the 20th they'll reveal the real thing and won't have to worry about people having too much hype for the controller.

Are you just guessing? I'd reallly like something close to this design.
