Well, I said weeks ago that Wii U was selling on par or worse than Gamecube did at launch and I got covered in arguments for pointing it out. Nintendo can still turn things around somewhat - they learned their lesson from the Gamecube with the 3DS: "Cut the price as fast as possible". And they can include another download game in the package (Mario as a download right in the box would help) without production costs increasing a lot. Nintendo's one glimmer of hope in a terrible launch scenario is that their competition will be twelve months late to the race. But they'll have to take losses to make up for this, there's no other way.
Vita sales are even worse. I have no idea how Sony could let the platform drown this much. The PSP had all kinds of blockbusters in its first two years on the market, the Vita mostly has niche titles. I guess Sony's 1st party studios will focus on the PS4. I really want to own a Vita (totally love my PSP) but whenever I see these sales I think there's a 50% chance Sony will just let the console die slowly and focus on the home console business.
One thing I noticed in general is how quick most people are to defend their system's sales while bashing sales of the other systems lol. Vita and Wii U are in equally dire positions (Vita actually being worse) yet I rarely see people mentioning both of them as equally "doomed" or not doomed - most people either talk about the Wii U or the Vita in a dramatic manner but don't mention the other system
