Could Iwata lose his job over these poor sales?

I don't think so. He can always point at the terrible 3DS start and show how Nintendo turned things around, so the least he can do is buy himself some time before investors seriously call for his head.

Unless investors start to ask how he could screw up two launches in a row when he promised the company learned their lesson with 3DS.

3DS always had Japan to fall back on once it got Monster Hunter exclusive.

If I'm not to late... Ni No Kuni is number 7 in individual SKUs chart.
Great news!

GAF is in meltdown -

"I don't believe 55k, but that is good for Wii u. Considering it has no games, nothing really comingfor 6 months, a poor price, crap online, no real account system, a poor online store, only comes in two colors, has more expensive multiplats, has dated multiplats, has worse running multiplats, has no good marketing, looks and feels kinda cheap, etc, that's great. I mean considering those few things."

Some of the posts there are gold.

Also, Ni no Kuni just outside the Top 10, sitting in 11th place!

From GAF.

Wii U is the first HD console to sell under 70k in a NPD month.

i just realised, one price cut for wii u and its already near the same price as PS3. that crazy when you take into factor, that ps3 released in 2006!

I wonder when mr. Cream will show up with the final nail.

Well now you know why Ubi Soft went running to PS3/360 with Rayman.

This is a disaster, no other way to put it.

As a Nintendo fan, I view these Wii U sales as good news, for a few reasons:

1. Price drop almost has to be coming soon now, at which point I might actually buy a Wii U.

2. Iwata has to be gone soon after this. Sorry Iwata, I enjoyed your quirky banana staring ways, but you just don't have what it takes to be running Nintendo's business side anymore. time for him to go the way of Ken Kutaragi.

3. May force Nintendo to go back to the Wii route and start appealing to a mass market audience again. After all, it was only after Nintendo hit dire straights with the Gamecube that they were essentially forced to take this route. Hopefully this will snap them out of their stubbornness and wake them up once again. Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom before you can start to take the climb to the top.

He would resign I guess, no one is going to fire him. But out of honor and to avoid sinking itself and the company further hey may be forced to resign.

I guess we will see in one years time, If you'd ask me right now, looking at how grm things are, I would tell you that there's no turning this catastrophe around, but time will tell.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.
