There's no problem with re-releasing or remastering classic games. If the industry wants classics to endure then it needs to make them readily available to the new generations, no?

Yes, and I wish Square-Enix would neo-shovelware some Secret of Mana onto PSN.

Fuck yes. I'd even overlook the spikier tiger/school girl alternate costume/whatever-it-is inevitable DLC.

So what do you think should be done? Should they not make old games available to newer consoles at all? Would that make you happier? Should it just be, "nope, sorry, you should have been born sooner, missed your chance, go to eBay"?

What about books? Should they not make eBook editions of older books? Should they not make Blu-Ray or DVD versions of old movies? If you missed it on VHS then you must forever go without owning Steven Segal's best works?

I'm not sure what you want, exactly.

Just expressing more concern that eventually if the industry relies on getting people to repurchase the same content again, boredom is going to set in, and the industry could collapse.  An important part of being entertained is novelty.

It isn't that it shouldn't exist, just that I have concerns that if this is all they are doing, it is going to result in there being mass falloff.

Why talk about the future? Just look at the past.

Yes, this is a thing. They keep re-selling us games because we keep re-buying them.

I am getting concerns it could be gettng worse.  Square-Enix is a major offender here to.  All they seem to do that even resonates somewhat is rereleasing Final Fantasy.

That's only because (a) it sells and (b) they can't make new games anymore. HD towns is hard!

Their current output is worrisome, but that's another matter. The old Final Fantasies are such classics that I'd prefer they be ported to everything in sight so that the option is always there to play them. It's much better than what they've done with their other games, like Secret of Mana which was unavailable for almost two decades until the iPhone port and Virtual Console release.
