That's only because (a) it sells and (b) they can't make new games anymore. HD towns is hard!
Their current output is worrisome, but that's another matter. The old Final Fantasies are such classics that I'd prefer they be ported to everything in sight so that the option is always there to play them. It's much better than what they've done with their other games, like Secret of Mana which was unavailable for almost two decades until the iPhone port and Virtual Console release.
