Forums - General - Why Create the Universe?

The creator of our universe is often described as an omniscient being. Supposedly, it has the perfect knowledge and wisdom in regards to everything that has ever occured, everything that does occur and everything that will occur in every possible scenario within our universe. This means that not a single thing could possibly happen without the creator being aware that it will happen an infinite amount of time before it actually happens. This makes me wonder though: Why would this creator make something happen despite being fully aware of the eventual result and despite having full, detailed knowledge of the entire process? What purpose would it serve to create something, such as our universe, and watch as everything occurs exactly as expected without a single unexpected event? What could possibly be gained from such a seemingly pointless act? I really cannot come up with a single reasonable answer to that question.

Does anyone else have an idea?

God: Oh, no room for God, huh? Fine! I'll build my own universe, with blackjack and hookers!

To make something existing.

Havent you ever had the idea or notion to create something when you were younger? Whether it was a stick figure made of whatever material, a video game, a cartoon, etc?

Of course I have. But I am not almighty which makes it a completely different case. I would be fueled by my desire to enjoy my creation; an almighty being would be able to gain the very same enjoyment artificially.

The creator's creation is pointless.

To watch babies cry as their candy gets stolen.

Nah, seriously, my best answer is to 'experience everything that there is to experience.' From falling in love, to watching your kids murdered in front of you. It's a rather brutal world at times. All sorts of extremes, with most of it dull in the middle.

Life is a series of experiences - like a game, but without a easy reboot option (well, that we know of anyway.) Isn't it the same answer to why create a game?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I don't know. Why did I watch Die Hard a hundred times?

we have some omniscient members here, they should be able to give you a plausible answer :)

Because as being God it can? Or maybe to fulfill a need of being worshiped by its creations.

See, I can't wrap my head around a perfect being having "needs", especially such petty ones. Unless you don't see God as a perfect being?

No. Far from it.

When we create a game we (can) do it for several reasons: The fun of creating it, the expected financial profits, the enjoyments of playing the final product, etc.

An almighty being would not have any of that. It would already be aware of how the entire process would turn out before it actually did. There would be no surprises along the road and they would learn nothing new. Everything would turn out exactly as expected. Not to mention that their powers would grant them the ability to create the final result without a developing process anyway.

Again, their creation is unnecessary.

Boredom.

I can imagine that sometimes we are like a soap opera that god watches sometimes. :/

Sometimes I imagine we're some super elaborate reality TV show made by advanced aliens.
